I was woried for a minute. - Worried| 1 replyI just got this call from 'Citibank' as well (telling me they were trying to contact me and to call 800-955-5172). I was suspicious so I called the Customer Service number on my bill and they said it was NOT a valid Citi number. BEWARE!
Your best bet would be to just call the publicly available number on the website or your bill.
Here is a link to the 800notes.com on the number they called from:

- Shunichi KamadaI have a message to Mr.(Ms.) S. Larson who is at the Fraud Early Warning Dept., and he (or She)wrote a letter to me dated on August 18, 2009.
I sent a reply immediately today, and I purchases some by my credit card in Hawaii from August 13 to August 21. There were few acounts prior to these date, who might be Sheraton and/or Dollar rent-a-car. They might charge me when I booked.
Anyway, please check my letter with the details of my payment dated on August 28. Thank you in advance for your protection/notice.
Best regards Shunichi Kamada - e-mail address: shunk119@sea.plala.or.jp - Shunichi Kamada replies to lisaDear Mr.(Ms.) S. Larson,

Shunichi Kamada E-mail Address: shunk119@sea.plala.or.jp - Nadine| 1 replyI got a call from 1800 955 5172 and I refused to give them my password. I immediately call my customer service number on the ack of my card and I was told that was not a valid number and there were no notes of fradanlent activities on my account therefore no reason to call me. I call the number back and and they said it was a citibank call...I gave them a made up account number and they asked me, "is this a sears account or a citibank account number" it was obviously fraud. The customer reps sound uneducated and unprofessional..do not let them decieve you.
- lkI just received an automated call from this number, with a message that said to call the same number (1 800 955 5172). That in and of itself is strange. I called the number just to see whether or not it was legit—I had a feeling it wasn't—and the first thing the guy did was ask for my Citibank account number. No bank does that! If you get a call from this number, ignore it. It isn't legitimate. The scam artists should be burned at the stake!
- Caller: "Citibank"
- Call type: Prank
- BobI received a voice mail from 800-955-5172 and was a little suspicious so I did some checking online including this site. I was unable to find any clear information regarding the number so I just called my Citi Cards customer service number and there was a flag on my account for some suspicious over seas charges. I did not even have to call the original number back and was able to resolve it all through a known, and trusted number.
- Caller: CITI
- DiamondJim replies to Mark09I had the same number given to me today. I called the number on the back of my card instead, and they verified this is a Citibank number...it goes directly into their Fraud Department.
- Fraud BusterI got an automated call from 800 955 5172 and learned it is definitely a fraudulent number. I called Citibank to check, and they said there was no activity on my account and that the number was not a valid number from Citibank. DO NOT CALL THEM BACK OR GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION! Any postings here making the number sound valid are probably posted by the same crooks who run the scam in the first place. BEWARE!!!
- Esther AkeleyI just received a call saying it was CitiBank. I called the 800 number and the first thing they did was ask me for my credit card number. I told them that they would have that So she said to call the number on the back of my card to verify. I don't have a CitiBank card unless Discover or Amazon use CitiBank
- Caller: They said Fraud Dept, CitiBank
- adam replies to NadineI had the same exact experience today.
- worried tooThis number is actual a legit number. HOWEVER, call the number on the back of your card so you can have a peace of mind if you worry about fraud.
- Caller: Fraud Dept of Citibank
- jackcall today from 800 955 5172 - Fraud Dept saying suspicious activity on my account and to call them back.
I used back of Citi Card 800 number - they verified it was happening- and closed my acount after verfying a few things. At lease someone is watching. !!!! Least they can do is show Citi in caller name !!! otherwise we all think it is a scam . I just happenend to think i should check this one out.- Caller: toll free call ( no id shown for Citi )
- LindaIt's a legit number from Citibank fraud department. I wasn't comfortable giving them my info and they suggested I call the number on the back of my card and were completely understanding. It's a trustworthy number.
- GirishYes, this number is from Citibank fraud department. We have received call yesterday to let us know about suspicious fraudulent activity and I confirmed with Citi customer service department.
When Citi representative called from 800-955-5172 number at our home phone, did not put name of the account holder.
In this case, it is complicated if you have more than one individual city credit card accounts in a household with different names (i.e., in name of husband, wife, son etc). and you have given your common house phone number. - JamesThe vm told it was call from CITIbank, but the call ID was NOT say CITIBANK,it was just show "toll free number "(no name),I can't trust them !
- Caller: Citi ?
