Scammer-In-Training Rachel says she is calling on a recorded line to verify employment.  I could hear several other people in the background and have the impression Rachel was being closely monitored by a supervisor or a trainer.  She failed the liptmus test and best of all she hung up and did not call back.

Rachel called again - on a recorded line - to verify employment.  She said she is calling from Health Professional Inc, (poor Google results though) and yes, she will call back on a non-recorded line.  "I'll call you right back," she said, but did not do.

Called about 9AM asking for my boyfriend only by first name. Told her he was not available, working. Asked if I could take a name and number and he'd call her back. She replied that she couldn't leave a message but she told me her name (which I honestly forgot) and said the best number was on the Caller ID! She then tried to get me to tell her if he still worked at a specific location, said he'd call her back and let her know.

A guy called saying we are registered agent for a new company who owes 300,000 usd to home land security and want the company contact info. Strange indeed. I told them this is a CPA office, everything must be in writing. It must be a scam call.

The "client" has nothing to do with it.  Federal law requires them to verify that they are talking to the alleged debtor before discussing the debt.  Nothing "secretive" about it.  You wouldn't want them talking to someone else and telling that person that owed money would you?

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
