Feb. 15, 2016: Voice message on my land-line phone.  "John York" of ICR calling (sounded like a recording) asking me to call 800-964-5689 about a debt.  It sounds like this recording has been used for several years now. (see previous comments)

I'm receiving several calls from John  York 800-964-5689. I'm on a do not call list. I have no bad debt to be collected. Nor does anyone in my household

You can block this number from your home land line or cell.  My Verizon cell permits up to five blocks good to block calls for three months for free.

I received a call from this number, no message, but called it back from my work phone and was told they were looking for someone else who is not associated with me whatsoever. It is probably someone who gave out a fake phone number who owes plenty of debt. They removed my number from their call list.

Caller was a debt collector calling on a valid debt. Very professional and did not give any problems. Once I told them I was calling from the number called , they looked it up and were able to tell me who I owed and the amount due. I told them that I would be following up with the debtor and would be paying them, they said thank you and we ended the call.

What's alarming is that the caller (John York) isn't looking for anyone in particular. Normally legitimate companies call and leave a message for an intended party not "this is an attempt to collect a debt".  Also,  you would be notified in writing by mail addressed to YOU and details  about the debt.  By the way, I don't have any outstanding loans.

800-964-5689 Recorded voice says to call back immediately. Says it's IRC Incorporated, a debt collector. I do not owe anyone money. Either a fraud or an error.

Repeated voice messages to call John York at ICR at my earliest convenience for a debt collection. I have no debt. The prerecorded message does not include the name of the person they are trying to contact.

Well lucky you, although that is a very strange way of saying it. You are lucky in another sense though. Someone in this thread posted the name and address of the debt collection company. So now you can send them a "not me" letter (make sure to send it certified, return receipt), you can report them to the FTC, CFPB, your State Attorney General and the New York State Attorney General, and you can sue them as well.
