- Sleepless| 3 repliesThis is Nations Direct. They try to get Notary Publics and Attorneys to perform what is considered by some States to be illegal or unethical real estate closings, depending on the Opinions of the various State Courts. Some States require an attorney, licensed in the State wherein the property is located, to draft many of the legal documents for a real estate closing, conduct the closing of all real estate purchase or refinanced mortgages, collect and disburse all of the funds, and to submit the deeds and mortgages to be recorded in the public records. Nations Direct (and other companies like them, such as some "Title Companies") disregard these State mandates (and/or laws) and tries to locate a local Notary or Attorney to handle only the "Closing Ceremony" in the Borrower's house. These are typically called "Witness Only Closings" and in some states are always illegal if performed by a Notary and may be considered unethical if performed by an attorney, since the attorney does not handle all aspects of the transaction. If you get calls from this company, at some point in time you were probably a Notary or Attorney and was placed on their list of possible Closing Agents.....

- Notary Signing Agent replies to TerriI do, on the average, two or three closings per month with N.D. They are a legitimate organization and are doing nothing illegal. Get your facts straight, people.
- MarkI am an attorney and I turned them down because I did not want to get involved with refinancings with documents I did not prepare. I did not look up whether it is legal or ethical because I did not want it.
- SuzyQI just received a call in Oregon from this number (didn't answer, no message) and I am neither a notary nor an attorney. Don't care if they're legit or not - they are telemarketers and wasted my time.
