6/29/15 9:41 PDT  Have no clue who or what this is and don't really care much.  Anyone who uses an 800 number shouldn't be blocking ID and since this one did, I didn't answer.  The only message was a very young sounding female coming on the line after auto dial connected with voice mail and said hello as if, as usual, expecting a response from this end.

6/30/15 12:46 PDT  Called again just now.  Still no ID.  This time it was a male with an accent which sounded slightly eastern.  He first asked for me by full name and then repeated first first name only, as if I (or the machine) should recognize his voice and answer him.  Please, please rescue us from these pains in the a**.  Will now proceed to block.

After receiving up to 15 telemarketer calls a day, I bought a Sentry 2 to block the lying rats! This device is great. It takes a little time to program the numbers you want to accept (friends and businesses you deal with) but it's well worth the effort. Once the rat number appears, you just hold the reject button down until it says 'done'. If they call again the phone will ring once and it's all over for them. So far I have blocked 34 rat numbers. Before I bought the Sentry 2, I actually had three occasions where I looked at the Caller ID, saw that it was a rat, and did not answer. It kept ringing until my phone ACTUALLY ANSWERED ITSELF!! I couldn't believe it. I was sitting across the room when I heard a 'click', saw the 'line in use' button light up, and a man's voice said 'Hello' several times. I was floored. Now they have the technology to answer your phone if you refuse to do so??? There was no one else at home except my Black Lab and I haven't taught him how to answer the phone! That was the last straw! That's when I bought the Sentry 2.

Like everyone, I am sick of these robocallers and marketers on a daily basis. So I found this feature with my service provider AT&T Uverse. I use the 'Call Screening' option. It will allow me to input a maximum of 20 callers that I will accept.  All others get no ring -- Just a voice message that says "the number you have dialed will not accept your call". They do not even get the option to leave a message.  But Uverse logs all calls attempted to dial me. So I periodically check my account on line and see if there is some legit number I have to add to the allowed list. Interesting note, the call logs on-line show these robocallers attempting 2-6 calls in a row within 1-2 minutes of each other.  Their automated system must think they misdialed because they never get a ring tone.  This feature allows me to still use my phone to make calls and lets face it, everyone who really wants to get a hold of me will call my cell. Just make sure to add your home security company to the list as well. Since I have done this I have not had one unwanted phone call and I am loving it!

Like all of you, I can't take this anymore.  I set my answer machine to one ring.  I don't even look at the phone anymore.  If anyone legit calls me they will just have to leave a message.  If it wasn't for the need to use my fax from time to time I would cancel my landline.  I can't believe I'm spending good money to listen to this crap anymore

They can't make your phone answer itself. If you have an answering machine, that would be the normal procedure: it will answer after a set number of rings. What you heard was the answering machine's message-monitoring option. Even if you have it turned off, some answering machines will turn on automatically after a different set number of rings, usually more, obviously: 10, say. That's so you, as the owner, can turn it on from outside, should you have forgotten to do so. You can probably disable that "feature" if you look into it.

You might do better to turn off the answering machine altogether, monitor the caller ID and answer ONLY numbers you know/recognize. Even having your machine answer can get your number classified as "live" and therefore scammable. Until we have a way of stopping illegal calls from foreign countries, we're nearly at the mercy of the scammers. Look into call blocking; some phone companies offer it for free, even if only for a limited number of phone numbers.

First call from this number.  A woman with a severe foreign accent said hello, and asked for a 'Caro', or 'Carl' or something similar.  When I asked who she was calling, it was repeated just as unclear.  As I explained that I never heard of them - she hung up.
