my computer got locked up and a message poped up and said that there was suspicous activity found on my computer. it said to call 1800-986-4360 to speak with a certified live technician . i called the no. an indian answered the phone and wanted me to turn control of my computer over to him so he could resolve my problem. i told him he was stupid if he thought i was going to turn control of my computer over to him then i hung up the phone.

He screwed my moms computer up Now I'm saying it all my fAult crying I hope He goes to jail his number is 1 (800) 986-4360

Same thing happened to me. Tried to pose as Microsoft. Gave 800 986 4360 on screen to call them to fix. I called to see what was up. Made it look like MSE warning message. Wanted me to download their "supremofree" software so they could log into my computer to fix it! I directly asked the Indian woman if she worked for Microsoft since this was sooo suspicious & she said yes!! Soo annoying..liar!! I put a caution about this bogus phone# on the Whitepages reverse phone lookup, but it has been deleted. Thank you to the above poster who gave instructions on how to close the Explorer window since this garbage locks the computer up.

I just got this laptop around 3 weeks ago and now I have this rouge virus. It seemed suspicious so I did not want to call the number and decided to look it up and I'm glad I looked it up. Now I just want to know how to get this off. I am 14 and I just told my father and well he is furious and telling me it's my fault when I only use two websites. Someone please help me get this off my parents will not help me and they are surely not going to take it to a professional to get it fixed.

It happens to many people here.  It is not your fault.  I am no computer expert, but there are some on this site.  I would try this though.  Disconnect from the internet, Clean out the cookies and cache of the web browser.  Restart and see if you still have the problem.  Run a virus scan, and also run a malware scan.  malwarebytes and spybot are 2 free programs.  In the meantime I will try to find you someone with more knowledge than i have.

For a Windows based computer:
Install MalwareBytes on the infected computer, use it to scan for and clean the infections.

Don't use Internet Explore for general web browsing, it is very easy to pick up infections though it. I suggest FireFox web browser along with AdBlock Plus addon. You can also use NoScript addon, however it takes some time to get it tweaked in good, plus it's best to be a bit tech savvy.

If the following program runtime language is installed on your computer, uninstall it:
JAVA by Sun Miscrosystem or Oracle
Look for it in Control Panel / Programs and Features
It is a run-time language suite, that while does have a lot of legit uses, it very vulnerable to web based exploits.
Unless you have a specific "must have" program installed that requires it, it is unneeded.

There are many types of exploits and trojans that can infect ones system, by simply having an ill protected computer that is online. Most do not require visiting a "bad" website or "running" a file or program found online to sent via email. These are fed to the internet from "bad" sources, but using "good" websites and advertisement feeds. It is possible to have a computer sitting on a Disney web page when an advertisement banner from a non-Disney feed is displayed, it having the "bad" code causing the computer to become infected. Advertisement feeds are handled by dozens of companies, worldwide, and they sometimes do not check the code submitted to them from what turns out to be a hacker.
By default, a computer generally tries it's best to "run" all content fed to it from the net, and that "flaw" is what most likely happened in your case. By running a more secure web browser, having up to date virus / malware protection, and removing programs that are not secure, one can enjoy content on the internet with less worry they will be the next victim to a hack or infection.

It's not your fault Ashley. Ask your parents to read these post it's happening to many of us. I've been getting these pop up messages and phone numbers to call for over a week. I didn't call their phone numbers, I googled them, and I'm so glad I did and found these post. These popups are annoying and I've tried basically everything to try and remove them. I've got McAfee and Vipre and still got these popups. I've followed Vipre's instruction and it still doesn't work. My last resort will be to backup my files and start all over with the restore disk. hopefully it works. Heck, these popups follows me everywhere even on my eBay account. These people are nuts. They are into marketing their product and services. They must be stopped.

Either take the word of the real Microsoft, the Federal Trade Commission, and real security professionals or the criminals in South Asia posing as Microsoft, or "Geek Squad", or Dell, or whatever prominent name brand suits the scheme. Learn to think for yourself and you'll avoid becoming a victim.

It is a fake....

Yes...this is a scam...I called it and stated my opinion VERY strongly.  After the call I immediately received numerous calls and hangups from 1-630-948-7685.  I tried calling this number and no one would answer.  At one point the call was answered and I heard switchboards in the back ground.  I called again and was allowed to leave a message, of which I warned that I would post this number unless they returned my call.

Than call me and told me that it was Microsoft  that was call about my computer  and I have problems with identify  that I need to to stop it by getting this update, and it would cost  got me to give the $ and then this happen in 8/16/15.  And then on 9/2/15 my computer was hacked  by them not only they hacked it but shut down my computer does  not work I call police and block  my accounts please  help me !!!  That need to be  stopped !!

Did not receive a call from them. I ignorantly bought a subscription on a shady dating website and it tells me I have to call this number to complete cancelling my subscription.

I bought a 1 day subscription for roughly $1 and wanted to cancel soon after, then I was charged for a $40 monthly subscription 2 days later. I need to cancel it but I'm not calling this number. I have no idea what else I can do...

Well, you could call this number and see where it goes or you could try reporting a fraudulent transaction to your credit card company but since you willingly gave this website your card number, the only thing the credit card company may do is cancel your card.
