Call received at 12:47 PM today, didn't hear the call because I was still asleep with sound turned off on my phone.  Call was flagged as "Suspected Spam" by my smartphone.  No Caller ID information, just the phone number of "+1 801-459-9240" & the fact my phone had flagged the call.  No voicemail or text was left after missing the call.  Call history for this number shows this is the first time I've received a call from this number, so it's likely a spoofed number.

Reason for call is unknown, however based on call history for the last 3 or 4 months, I suspect I'll be receiving a call from another unknown number later today, this time with an area code outside of Utah (also likely spoofed) & likely leaving a voicemail after it's missed/rejected.

Got call at 11:21 AM today.  Didn't hear phone ring because was being a lazy bones.  Spam detecting app said "Maybe Spoofed Who Knows".  Caller ID showed name "OGDEN UT" and this number.  Don't know any body named UT.  UT did not leave a voicemail.  Maybe UT will call again and leave voicemail from different number later.

Call back to the number gets, "The person at extension 5 is on the phone."  I can't say for sure but I've encountered that exact message when calling back numbers that I later answered.  There were three such times and each was a "vacation package"  telemarketing call.

This "Mongo" is a troll that's been following me around and posting on my comments. I'm pretty certain it's one of the same trolls that keep downvoting my comments immediately after they have been made (seems they are actually searching them out only to downvote them or leave antagonizing comments), because their comments never get downvoted, despite being in the same fashion as mine and clearly done only to mock my own comments.

They have already been noted as a "known troll" on my personal site (bringing that count up to 4). I also recently updated my review of 800notes to include details of this ongoing situation on a security suite site, bringing the score down from 5 stars to 2.

Troll can track you by your posting name, so you might try using a new name or names. Worth a try. Also, you can report those posts to the site admin by clicking on the ( ! ) Next to the Reply button at the bottom of a post. Also worth a try.

Don't let the trolls get you down, smart readers understand that down votes given to sensible posts can be ignored.

I appreciate the concern & sincerity of your response, so allow me to respond to you:

I'm aware they can track me by the name, however I changed it once in the past when comments under the other name were getting deleted, I decided to just stick with this one and try to ignore being targeted by it.  By targeting my comments, they are only wasting their time searching them out (one troll in particular started claiming other people making the same statements were me posting under other names, so I can't even guess how many names they are searching out each day), because I no longer value ratings of comments on this site & troll responses are usually just ignored (that doesn't mean I don't take note of them however, it's become a part of the reviews I've written).

Ironically, I am still unable to get an account registered on the website, so I have to remain with unregistered names until I can get over that hurdle.  I had been ignoring the comments made by known trolls, I just decided to respond to Pudge because I didn't want them wasting their time responding to troll responses (one of the few registered users on the site I have past experience with that I can say I still have respect for, your response would make you a second I could give a name on).

Also I've been reporting the obvious troll or abusive comments, however those reports rarely get acted on (probably because I'm still posting as unregistered, which means the reports are also unregistered, meaning that the reports may not even be making it to where they need to go).

I don't know what the issue is with registering but you might try clicking the "contact us" link on the bottom right column.  Let the administrators or moderators know what is the issue.  Are you getting error reports or just "nothingness?"  Let them know.  In the meantime, B-Edwards, a trusted regular, offered sound advice.  Heed it.  Nothing beats a troll better than ignoring it.  Cheers. :-)

Could have something to do with the high security on my browser, might also be a server-side issue.  The error message states that it can't send the confirmation email, so it sounds more server-side than client-side, but it wouldn't be the first time I've had my high browser security prevent some information from being entered (or being transmitted after being entered).  I'll have to try to revise the security on my browser again & see if I can get it fixed client-side, otherwise I'll take your advise & attempt to contact support (although I'm not expecting anything positive to come out of that with the ongoing issues, it's probably still worth a try).

Yes, please.  Give it try.  I know octonet does not allow VPN.  That might be a place to start.

-- Pudge has some good stuff there. A leader in practical knowledge and solutions.

If you are having trouble registering, I seem to recall I had to take a couple of runs at registration (long years ago) and that Octonet doesn't like some of the more aggressive anti-virus software or ad-blockers you might be running. Try turning those off for the registration step. Keep us posted in this thread.

As I understand it, Admin has reasons behind taking action (or not) on Known Trolls. As regular users we may not be informed or agree, but thought does go into the process. I do know the regular posters do what they can to look out for one another.

Remember that most trolls are looking for you to respond to them in some way so they can pick an on-going fight. Ignore the bait.

    - Create posts with info that is helpful to others looking for info about calls from the number in question.
    - Create posts that help others understand HOW a scam works - what was said or offered and how the scam works. That might cross over into exposing various scams.
    - Help others lean how to cut the number of calls not only from single numbers but how to cut the number of calls overall. This is a moving target, but one worth aiming at. Fewer calls is something people appreciate.

Ignore the bait and troll downvotes. Good, sensible and useful posts stand out and will help others. People will know the Real from the Troll.

No VPN for normal web usage, although I do have access to one through BitDefender I use in rare cases (torrents for example; let's just say I don't trust those & very rarely run them, there's a reason I use a VPN in that case).

I do use BitDefender, this is a switch from maybe over a decade (if not closer to 2) of Norton, the switch came after they cut off Windows 7 (still owning 2 PCs that run it); this will probably be extended another 5 devices when the new subscription period comes up.  I wouldn't say BitDefender is excessively aggressive (not compared to Norton) & I haven't seen any alerts when coming here, so I doubt BitDefender is the cause of it.  It can be an irritation to get it fully disabled without having to uninstall it in the rare cases it is interfering with my software.

Aside from high browser security on Firefox (which could be blocking cross-site cookies), I also use NoScript, uBlock Origin, Adblock Plus, AdGuard AdBlocker & Popup Blocker Ultimate as non-paid security plugins (also still have Norton Safe Web installed from back when I was still using Norton, however it only tells you if a site is expected to be safe or not & doesn't interfere with individual scripts, but may block known malicious websites).  These are easier to disable, however after 3-5 hours of trying to troubleshoot this issue a month or 2 ago, I eventually gave up on it...

It's most likely an off-site security cookie that is getting blocked if the issue is client-side.  Best bet would be to disable all security plug-ins & lower security to allow cross-site cookies & see if I can get to the bottom of it.  Alternatively, I could try another browser (although even this didn't work last time I tried to troubleshoot it).

There is one other possibility, but I doubt this would be the case.  I do have a number of other domains blocked through my modem, however I doubt these would be the cause of it.  This list includes sites like Patreon, Retrotink, TeamViewer, TruthSocial, any search engine that gets it's search results from Bing (with the exception of Yahoo) & 1 other I'm not going to mention, as well as YouTube occasionally gets blocked from time to time (a result of yearly successful attacks from Steam trolls right around the time of my birthday starting in 2023).  I won't be willing to remove these blocks, so if these are the cause of it, I probably won't bother with having a registered account (it won't be worth the risk to unblock those domains).

Just tried again, the specific error is "Could not send the validation message to [censored]@yahoo.com. Make sure you specified the correct email address."

Note that I censored the actual username on the email address, but left the domain to show it's a Yahoo account, just in case that has any relevance to a possible rejection of account creation.

Disabled all security plug-ins, dropped browser privacy to Standard, cleared site data & cookies on 800notes.com as well as my.octo.net; still no dice.  Maybe over 10 attempts later, still can't get past the "Could not send the validation message" error.  Even tried multiple email addresses.  I'd be curious if anybody else trying to create an account may be running into this...

Just finished sending the message through the "Contact Us" link.  No auto-response to it has been received to my email yet (checking before I responded again), so we'll see if I get a response or not.  I provided a link to this page in the contact attempt to give further details on steps I've taken to troubleshoot this issue & mentioned you specifically for recommending I attempt to contact them about it.  Just going to have to wait for now...
