Message that you failed to go to the GrandJury and that a warrant for your arrest will be issued unless you call this number back.  Caller sounded like he was calling form India...    SCAM< SCAM

Also got a message.  Message sounded exactly like like how these types of scams start out saying.  Message was about Grand Jury and to call him to work together on the issue.

Total scam.  Unbelievable.  They called saying something about a Grand Jury, but in his message he does not state who he is calling.  He says "you."  Caller was of India decent and called himself C. Watson.  I called the number back to either laugh at him or give him a piece of mind (wasn't quite sure), but the call didn't even go through.

Same as above caller lam on my parents land line stating that you failed to appear in front of a grand jury and the US Treasury has or is going to issue a warrant for your arrest unless you call the number back.... 1st problem 2 people use the land line you doesn't work. 2. The US GOVERNMENT rarely calls if they do it says that on  your caller id. 3. They would send a grand jury notice by mail. 4. They don't threaten you the just come get you.

They just called my elderly mother about her taxes.  She paid her taxes and is on a payment plan.   They threatened my mother with justice department and police action.  Something needs to be done with this.  You will give an elderly person a heart attack.

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

Thank you 800notes bloggers. I was called from 801-742-7925 and then 2 min later from 801-742-7935 and a male with a accent suggestive of India or southeast Asia left this voicemail as follows:
"... before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a Federal criminal offense. My number is 801-742-7935. Again 801-742-7935. I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you. Thanks."

Hi Memphis:  got the same call.  Steve Martin was his name.  I would have answered saying I'm Del Griffith and was wondering if he wanted to buy some shower rings (fyi - Planes, Trains,...) .  I believe my message was the same as yours. Got it on VM.  It was an 'Enforcement Action' and Stevie was with the U.S. Treasury.  Sounded like he was reading a script but he did end with the exact line you have at the bottom of your message.  I was tempted to call back.  Sad that soo many people get scammed by these crooks!

Got the call this morning, (and from a different number a couple of days ago) from a very noisy call center and a guy with a foreign accent who identified himself as "Steve Martin." I didn't find him very funny at all. So I hung up and reported the number to TIGTA.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

This number called me and said I had to report to a Grand Jury.  The accent was Italian.  I fear someone who is less savvy will be caught up in this scam.

Caller with thick Indian accent stated his name was Steve Martin.  I thought to myself in my thick southern accent, "Honey, there is no way your daddy named you Steve Martin"   He then went on, as others have described, talking about a Magistrate and my need to call  "so you can help me help you."    This was not my favorite scam call.  My favorite is, well maybe from the same guy who told me my computer had contacted him at Microsoft and told him it had a virus.  I laughed sooooooooo hard and I asked if my computer had e mailed him or was it an instant message.  He sighed LOUDLY and hung up.
