They're skip tracers...Hired by a company to track people down to collect a debt (I believe for Student Loans??)
When they call you, you're not the person they are looking for, but they are looking for someone that you know/lived by or you might even be a friend or relative of a person who knew the person they are looking for (a "My counsin's sister's boyfriend's brother's aunt's baby daddy" type situation...lol they don't care as long as they can link you to knowing the person in one way or another, even if it's not directly). Could be a friend, family member, etc...They will even go as far as to go online, look up the address of the person they are trying to collect the debt from, find the SURROUNDING neighbor's phone numbers and try to call them to see if you know the person's whereabout's...They're straight up scandalous and will stop at nothing to try to find the person they are looking for. A good tip though...if you tell them to never call you again because you don't know where the person they are looking for is, they will remove your number from their calling lists.
But if you do happen to know the person and any info about them, I wouldn't give up the info if I were you...they turn into rude ungreatful people once they find out you know where the person is...you will try to ask them what it's regarding so you can give the person they're trying to reach a message and they will snap back at you telling you that they won't tell you a thing and that you NEED to tell them where the person is right that very second. Plus, if you tell them you know where the person is but don't want to give out any of their info unless you speak to them first to find out if it's ok, they will keep calling you and bugging you all day...even if you tell them to remove your number. They're scavangers...evil, evil people. I know it's their job, but come on...you're not a babysitter for God's sake...you're not gonna slap a GPS on someone to make sure you know where there are 24/7.

received a call from this number today --- tried to look it up, and found that it's a scam caller. Wonderful...
