Received an email with this phone number saying I was approved for a 2000 loan from ace cash express. I looked up ace cash express they are located in Irving TX. Their contact phone numbèrs are all toll free. The offer was signed by David Cooper Sr Loan Officer 803-400-3019. Hmmm scam

You can attach the email to a complaint filed with IC3, the Cyber crimes division of the FBI. Advance fee loans are illegal period and in some states, so are the payday loans.   Please be aware the scammers may also claim down the road that you have taken a loan and try to extort money from you that way as well!

On July 10, 2014, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) issued a Consent Order affirming enforcement action against payday lender ACE Cash Express for alleged use of illegal debt collection practices in violation of the Consumer Protection Act.

The CFPB conducted an investigation that found ACE Cash Express, a payday lending company, used unfair, deceptive, and abusive tactics when directly collecting debt with consumers and when using third-party debt collectors on its behalf resulting in the enforcement action and agreed Consent Order.

Specifically, the CFPB order states that ACE Cash Express debt collectors engaged in a number of aggressive and unlawful collections practices which included: Making false threats to criminally prosecute consumers and leading consumers to believe that they would be sued or subject to criminal prosecution if they did not make payments; threatening to charge extra fees and report consumers to credit reporting agencies when in fact ACE collectors could not charge fees and cannot report non-payment to credit reporting agencies; and harassing consumers with an excessive number of collection calls, which, in some of cases ACE collectors repeatedly called the consumers' employers and relatives as well as reportedly shared details of the debt.

The CFPB's enforcement action of the Consent Order stipulates that ACE Cash Express agrees to: Cease from engaging in any deceptive, abusive or unfair collection practices; pay $5 million in refunds to consumers affected by the illegal debt collection tactics; and pay an additional $5 million in civil penalties to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

The Consent Order agreement resolves only ACE Cash Express's civil liability for law violations per the CFPB's investigation. ACE Cash Express agreed to the issuance of the Consent Order without admitting or denying any of the findings of fact or conclusions of the law.

This order was signed and finalized by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on July 3, 2014.
