- ACP replies to gsm| 1 replyI got same msg as all above - who are you reporting it to?
- dougcApparently exactly the same crazy message from "Officer Marcos" this morning at about 11AM PST. He didn't mention my name but did include the warrant/Federal Court threats. My guess is a physing scam to get vital personal info and/or credit card info....
- Call type: Prank
- SRSame here - Persistent little puppy isn't he? Of course it's a scam.
- Caller: Officer Marcus
- BarbaraWe got exactly the same message. Who should we report this to?
- Caller: "IRS" yea right.
- Retiree who likes traveling.Got call this afternoon from a caller identifying himself as Mr. Marcus. He stated that I am under investigation for tax fraud and there is a warrant for my arrest. Since I worked for Franchise Tax Board, they have pretty much put the fear God into we employees and are audited regularly. I've been called in for audits twice and have never received a phone call, everything is through mail to set up an appt. at the local office. The caller has a heavy accent, my guess is East Indian or Latino. He states that he would like pertinent vital information to clarify the circumstances. I do know for a fact that the tax board and the IRS has more information than I have on myself, so there would be no need for me to provide information that they already have access to. No specifics are given as the information he states and the guy sounds very rehearsed. As I've stated, if someone has committed tax fraud, the IRS will send agents to arrest you. Mr. Marcus is a conman who is not convincing, needs to spend more time at church to learn one should not prey and steal from thy elderly. Phone calls do not much reaction, so these guys must use a broad based robo-caller technique to broadcast out before they get anyone to respond. I would like to end this with, retirees, fear not, and let us travel the world without fear of con men or terrorists who prey on the innocent.
- Caller: Claims to be IRS Agent
- Jim SYeah, same here, tax evasion. Low-lifes, these idiots are at the bottom of the food chain!

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - CherylI just received a phone call from Mr. Marcus today. He also says I have a warrant for my arrest due to tax evasion. Pretty sure he is a con man.
- hatemesometelemarketers replies to donna pEverytime I see someone on here 'wonder where the caller got the number' or rant about how their number is unlisted and how did these people get it..I roll my eyes so far back into my head I have to smack myself to get them back.
Stop being stupid. Your phone number is a random 10 digit number that anyone with a computer and a little knowledge of auto dialers can dial. YOU weren't picked specifically. YOU just happened to be the next number in the system.
Duh. - MK| 1 replyMr Marcus has a partner Jason OConner...same spiel
- DLS66Officer Marcus called our number at 9:07 this morning. A thick middle Eastern accent. His message did not specifically name anyone in our household, but said that it involved tax evasion. His spiel was the same as everyone has described, and that we could avoid the warrant for arrest, if we called back. Not happening here!!!

IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. It has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And usually a lot of appeals. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail. - CWG40 replies to donna pThere's a strong market for information around the world. In a lot of cases they already have a lot of your financial and personal information. They tend to go after women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community.
