Have received numerous calls. I hear it's a fraud.

** INFAMOUS IRS SCAM**  The more people who take the time to file a complaint, the better chance these criminals will be apprehended.
I got a call from 800-829-1040   The recording said to call 804-496-1029.

The  voice was Latino.  Amnesty?  This guy'll need more than amnesty if caught.  IMHO

I got a nasty call on my answering devise claiming I owed some debt (un-specified) and if I did not call back (804-496-1029),He (in an Indian-ish accent) was going to have the local Sheriff come and arrest Me! Also the same person (I think) has been calling Me on my cell. with a call I.d. of  (804)642-8078. A return call gets you an automated operator who says the no. is disconnected . I don't think I'll be calling (804) 496-1029. (No sheriff in my town)  Other suspicious no. (866) 539-8674, same outfit, ?

IRS SCAM!

I received a 2nd call on my cell in two days from the "IRS" (800-829-1040) whatever…I blocked that number yesterday. Today they were still able to leave a message on my voice mail requesting I call them back at 804-496-1029.  The message/voice sounds exactly the same as yesterdays so I believe it is simply a bot call, fishing for someone to call them back so they can be scammed out of thousands of dollars.

"to notify you that we have received a legal petition notice under your name concerning a tax evasion a tax fraud so before we take this matter into the final claim court house the serious allegation and you will get arrested  by the local sheriffs department I want you to give us a call back on 804-496-1029, I repeat once again 804-496-1029  so do not disregard this message do give a call.  thank you."

Now perhaps there were words spoken before our machine kicked in, but this was all I got, in a heavy what sounded like middle eastern accent, never once saying the name of anyone in our household, at least not that got recorded.

Got this call today (2/20/15) @ 10:30 am. The script was exactly the same as you say.  It was an Indian accent and a little frightening.

I just had the same thing - and blocked the number. It was pretty frightening and the man was very persistent. However, I asked them what my name was and they didn't comply therefore I knew it was a scam. Thanks for everyone's insight - I was quite nervous!

Just had this guy call me and leave the same message. I called back and he gave me some line about mis-filing taxes for 6 years. He claimed they sent us notices and when I asked if he had notified our accountants, who file on our behalf, and what he expected to get out of this phone call he hung up. Hope others don't get suckered in.

The person calling is Puetro Rican. This scam has been going on since last year and he has called me 3 times now trying to get me to be scared enough to call him back. I do call back, but only to harrass them.  The number comes in on caller ID as 800-829-1040 under "Pro Res OFC", whatever that means. There's at least 2 guys working this scam together. They have a whole bank of phone numbers they're using to stay ahead of authorities, but it's the same accents every time. So far the numbers have originated in NYC (The Bronx/ Queens), El Cajon, CA, and now Virginia.  Would love to find these guys and shut them down...permanently.

I got a terse call on my cell phone claiming I am accused of tax evasion and tax fraud.  and if I did not call back (804-496-1029) (the man calling was EAST Indian) was going to have the local Sheriff come and arrest Me! It appears different version of this scam is being perpetrated .  The caller I.d. Was  1-800-829-1040

I received several calls from 804 496-1029 and 703 662-8330 with threats of arresting me on tax fraud. Tottally a fraud. Do not answer. Scrum bags. India voice and said he was Mexican.

I received the exact same message.  Scared me at first, then I realized it had to be a scam.  Glad when I reverse looked it up though and saw for sure that it was.  I am surprised law enforcement doesn't shut them down.

I received a call from this number this morning asking if I was Karen Allen, saying they were a tax fraud officer and they had been trying to get a hold of me about paying insufficient taxes in 08/09. I knew it was fishy because: a) His Indian accent was so strong and I didn't think the IRS would outsource, b) my husband and I have been filing jointly since 1991, c) I've not received any mail and that's the way the IRS does things.

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

received the same message today, from a Va. area code, middle Eastern voice. No IRS ID number left, sounded suspicious. Thanks to these notes I know it's a scam.

I received the call today - claimed tax evasion issue. Middle eastern voice, claiming from IRS and I should not ignore the call. Since I file my taxes every year, this was pretty ridiculous!

Total scam. Indian accent and you can hear that its just a room with tons of phones in the back. Tried calling back - can't get through.  Left a name Markus Smith-don't know of too many people from India with a Smith last name. They are just hoping that you pick up the phone when they call. Anyway ignore them and report them.

I just got a call from the 804 829 1029. Man says her was calling to let me know that the IRS had a tax evasion case against me. I hung up on him.
