This was a phone call from a fake DEA Agent with a heavy accent accusing me of illegally purchasing medication over the internet, he had a lot of information on me and I was scared but didn't answer any of his questions so he began to threaten me with arrest, I asked for a phone number and name to call him back and looked the number up on the internet where I found others with the same complaint.
Be carful do t say anything except what do you want me to do and when they ask for money tell them to get %#&$.

I (like others) got a message from this number from a "DEA agent" with a very heavy accent claiming my name came up in "an investigation" and he needed information from me. Not surprisingly, he offered no real credentials and was very pushy. Definitely a fake and a scam!

I received the same call today 1/27/2014 from the same type of gruffy foreign accent threatening me that I had broken several federal drug laws and that I should retain an attorney. Supposedly I had ordered some form of medication that had been confiscated in the Caribbean someplace he couldn't tell me where. Oddly I didn't order any meds?? So I called the DEA and found out this is a scammer who is hacking into pharmicutal data bases and then calling up people with initial threats and then it leads to who knows what. So I gave the Feds the phone number and we called him back of course there was only an answering machine. Since I am an ex-Fed I wasn't intimidated but it is interesting that people would go to this extreme to scam people. Please post if you receive anymore calls and request the full name and badge number as well as his supervisors name and phone number that should stop him in his tracks!! In the meantime the real feds are on to him and them now!

I received the same exact message on my answering machine today.  I've gotten this type of call before, from someone saying he was with DEA.  Ignore the calls!

ALERT - EXTORTION SCAM - ALERT
DEA Warns Public of Extortion Scam by
    DEA Special Agent Impersonators
The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as DEA special agents or other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scheme.

The criminals call the victims (who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the lnternet or by telephone) and identify themselves as DEA agents or law enforcement officials from other agencies.  The impersonators inform their victims that purchasing drugs over the lnternet or by telephone is illegal, and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay a fine.  In most cases, the impersonators instruct their victims to pay the "fine" via wire transfer to a designated location, usually overseas.  If victims refuse to send money, the impersonators often threaten to arrest them or search their property.  Some victims who purchased their drugs using a credit card also reported fraudulent use of their credit cards.

Impersonating a federal agent is a violation of federal law.  The public should be aware that no DEA agent will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment.

The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet.  It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met.  And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the lnternet must be registered with DEA.  By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law.  In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.

Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official seeking money should refuse the demand and report the threat.
