    Another call from a police/firefighters "charity".  After repeatedly avoiding my questions, the caller revealed himself to be a computer program/robot playing prerecorded statements.  He said he was in New Jersey but couldn't/wouldn't tell me why the caller ID was for a California number.  At one point I was transferred to a supervisor who said that she was in Ohio.  As best I can tell, the number is for a real person in Bellflower, CA who has nothing to do with this scam.  Lompoc is 170 miles away.
