Got a call about half an hour ago. put the number in the computer and was amazed this site didn't come up on top, so I brought the number in the back door. Just another new number from an old scammer, I'm sure. Blocked!

I got a call from this number. Apparently it is a scammer.

This caller is part of a criminal enterprise dedicated to ripping off the public.  They exist due to an ineffective and disinterested federal government, which is also far too busy ripping us off as well.

They are still at it.

Um ... methinks an appreciable number of people would disagree with that statement.

Please keep up with the news, rather than make specious accusations.

The FTC and top communications companies are meeting, to determine what they can do to stop robocalls and other illegal calls.  Here is a link to a frequently updated page, showing the history and progress of their initiatives:

Scam/Spam call about Security System sign in front of the house and pay them a monthly fee. I blame Go Daddy because these "type" of spam calls and emails have not stopped since I registered a domain a few weeks ago.

I blocked this caller, then came here to see what the call was for.

Unfortunately, all the reports here just say it's a scammer, but they don't say how they know... I don't recognize the number, but I hope it wasn't a valid call.

In any case they are blocked now.

Do not blame GoDaddy!

Y'see, when you registered your domain, you were given the option to keep your info private.  You did not select that option.  The default for ALL domains is to display the contact information when requested.

Strongly suggest you get a call blocker.

Take off your tin hat before posting.  People calling are ordinary criminals and scofflaws.  Invest
in a call blocker and DO NOT pick up on call numbers you do not recognize.  805 area  code is often
used by solar panel scammers.  You might want to block that area code.

Two calls is on minute. Both hang ups.

Did not answer. Another poster on a different site said it is " Julia with a free offer of home wireless security."

CID was Ventura, CA. I was not at home and of course they left no message.

The cid showed "VOIP call" and phone number 805-947-5118.  Voicemail caught a recorded message, as follows:

"…special promotions department.  Your home was selected to receive a free wireless security system that gives you smart phone access and alerts remotely.  We just ask you to help us advertise by placing a sign in your front yard.  This system is valued at over eleven hundred dollars in equipment and installation costs and is free if you agree to pay a small monthly monitoring fee which covers you twenty-four seven for police, fire, carbon monoxide and medical emergencies.  If you have an existing system, you will qualify for free upgrades and potential rate reductions.  Press 1 if you are interested in hearing options.  Press 2 to be taken of the list.  Thank you."

I've heard this same, tired, robo message from multiple phone numbers.
