- Diana replies to PatWhen I looked up the number they said it was in TAMPA Florida. I never entered Publisher Clearning House stuff so how could I be a finalist? I never give anyone who calls me (especially on my cellphone ANY information. You have no idea who these people are.
- DianaGo figure - I'm a finalist in the Million Dollar PCH sweepstakes... I never entered the sweepstakes. I never give out any information to anyone who calls me. There is enough ID theft out there. She wouldn't hang up and got really upset with me that I told her NOT to call me and that I was on the DO NOT CALL LIST. Yeah right... I'm a finalist.

Call blocker at crackberry. - DDI do not recognize this number. When I called it back, it took me only 30 seconds to respond to the automated voice prompts and have my number removed from their list. Very easy. This was a sales call which I am not supposed to receive at my number. Don't want to be bothered again.

- AnonymThese crooks have called around lunch and dinner time every day for about a week - each call shows a different city and number. I decided to have fun today and asked the dummy for the name of the company she represented (as soon as she said she wanted to renew my magazine subscription). After stumbling for a moment, she said "Magazine Renewal Service", which of course, isn't even a company. I then asked which magazine she's calling about; she said that her computer screen doesn't show that. My next question asked how far into her speech she'd be asking for my credit card number. That drew silence, at which point I cursed at her and threatened to send her to jail if she ever calls again. Not only is this an obvious scam, but it's not even a well-conceived one. How could be idiot who scripted the thing not even give the callers a believable company name? Do they really expect even the most naive victim to throw them a CC number if they can't tell them which magazine is being renewed? Hell has a special corner for these people; it's only a matter of time before they get there.
- Caller: Magazine Renewal Service (ha!)
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Guest1I got several calls from this number. I didn't pick up the phone and they did not leave a message.
- DagMac| 1 replyI just answered a call from "George" with so much background chatter I could hardly hear him (wouldn't have answered but didn't have my reading glasses on so couldn't read the number). He asked if my magazines were coming on schedule. I told him as far as I know they are. He said he wanted to verify my information so he could remove my name from their calling list. He read my address and asked if that is correct, asked if I'm married, and asked if I'm retired. He didn't ask for any information that I felt could cause problems for me. After verifying this he said goodbye. I became concerned that I might have gotten one of those foreign calls that end up costing thousands of dollars, so Googled the area code to find it is in Florida. I'm pretty sure he's with Publishers Clearing House since I think I ordered a magazine or two from them a year or so ago.

- just me replies to DagMacJust got a call from this number. The caller ID just said florida. A man said something like he was from a magazine company and wanted to know if I was receiving my magazines and if they were comming damaged. Something didn't feel right as he did not specify any magazine. He then confirmed my full name and address, he read it to me, I did not supply any information. I am aware that this information is available online. He then asked if he could confirm my age, and I said no. I ended the call there.
I do not think this guy is from any magazine company. I am not sure what their scam is buit I will be keeping an eye on things. - laughing in Fort WorthI got calls yesterday from 512-233-0027 and on listed as "Important" from 770-884-1855 and now this one today. Googled all of them- all with something to do with magazines (i dont have any subscriptions).
The laugh comes in- my phone service will be shut off in 2 days due to a move. We will have Vonage and be able to block calls in the future- so the jokes on them. I dont know how long they will keep calling this old number but it gives me joy to think they are wasting their time!
I never give out my cell # as my contact #. If I am away from home I can forward calls to my cell if I am expecting anything or Vonage will send me a text of any messages that are left. Finally I will have tools to block these nusances!- Caller: Out of Area
- LynnI BELIEVE THEY ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF IDENTITY THEFT. They have been dailing me daily for over three weeks and, in hopes of stopping it, I finally answered an hour ago. Girl said she had reports of people in my area who were not recieving their magazines or receiving them in damaged condition. Told her that was not a issue for me and she asked my age and which type of credit card has given me the best service (I answered both, UGH!), and then forwarded me to her "supervisor" who would ask me about the quality of service she provided. Instead, "Tyler" comes on the line and says I'm set up for automatic renewal and I said No, that wasn't right and requested they send a bill at renewal time to which he replied that they are a "green" company so no more paper bills would be mailed but he could cancel my auto renewal and said that he had a mastercard (funny! it's the same type of credit card I stated I preferred) on file for me and could I confirm the expiration date -- which I did... All of the sudden he needed to actually enter that credit card number in order to cancel the auto renewal He said the first number was 5 but needed the rest of the number to complete the cancellation. ALL MASTERCARD CREDIT CARDS START WITH A 5. I said no way I was giving my credit card number over the phone. He actually said to me that thieves only target billionaires!!! not regular people. That was enough! I told him to give me the company number and I would call them directly. The number gave me is 888-299-8272. I then hung up and began my hunt for who this really was on the other end of the line. VERY SUSPICIOUS!
DO NOT ANSWER THIS NUMBER (813) 217-5938 - Arkia72Called asking to find out if I was getting my magazines in good condition. When I asked what magazines they were referring to, they hung up. They had my name and address, I wouldn't confirm their, however.
