I got the same call from a guy called Steve Gotti and that i owed $2,231.69 from my previous apartment that i lived in. I had moved out for almost a year now and that i missed a few months of payment. I know i don't owe anything because I was in the Navy and that if i did owe anything...the apartment would've contacted my command reporting it first then giving it to this so called collection agency.

    The company is Hunter Warfield
    4620 woodland corp
    Tampa fl 33614

The agent calling himself Steve Gotti is rude and unreasonable to say the least.  The managers there are not much better.  I recommend you simply send them a certified letter stating that they are to cease all further contact.  If you can prove that they have made collection attempts after receiving a certified letter from you, an attorney can sue them for each attempt.  Don't remind them when they call that you have sent such notification, just get their name and hang up. Document the time and date of the call.  They will likely owe you more money than you owe them after one or two calls.  The fine is generally $1,000 per violation.  In addition it is illegal for a debt collector to threaten any action like litigation, unless they actually intend to pursue such action.  If your account balance is less than $2,000 there is very littler chance that such a threat is legitimate and you may have additional cause for civil action.  Speak to an attorney.

They called my fiancé harassing him about an apartment that was completely paid up. They wouldn't answer any questions, and told him that if he wanted information, he would have to give them references to contact. He gave them my name and number, not realizing what they were like. They call me, leaving threatening voicemails for him, and they call him anymore. Steve gotti is the name I always get. I'm sure this works 2/3 times, scaring someone's friends or family into thinking their loved one will be in some legal trouble. I hope the certified letter from the previous comment works, thank you.

Sara, never take that call again! replies to sara
Everytime you take his calls, you are opening your file with them all over again. Did you know that you DO NOT have to take that call? There is no law that states you have to answer each and every call.  Wait, the good news keep getting better and better. Did you also know that debts have expiration dates?  Yes ma'am, you read right!

Just like a milk carton has an expiration date, so due debts. If a creditor hasn't been successful in obtaining a payment from you, (i.e., loss of job, moved, bankruptcy, etc), that's their problem. After a certain amount of time, it is against the law for them to pursue this, and wait! It gets better... they have to legally remove it from your credit file.

If you have any questions, write to me privately

itoldthetruth2009@live.com  I'll tell you how to do this, and free!  I'm curious, is the apt complex by any chance, Snell Isle of St Pete? It sure sounds like them!

Next time they call, keep pressing the replies to kmeg
keys on your phone. If you try to be nice, then treat them the same way they are behaving. Someone calls me and doesn't let me speak, I tell them, "Wait I have a call coming in, will you hold?" And immediately hit the mute button. I mean, don't even give them a chance to say no!
Or, just keep hitting keys until they hang up, lol

    Or speak a foreign language.

Why not have fun with these idiots? I know I DO!

What the debt collectors don't want you to find out.
Check out the Fair Credit Reporting Act and their website. YOu will find useful info there from sample letters to creditors, stop harassing calls, etc

Also, look up, how to repair your credit the legal way online... You'll learn a lot!

    Say What? replies to anan
Sorry but your statement that they won't sue you for a debt under $2000 is simply  misleading. In some States such as Michigan, Virginia, Maryland and also Washington DC you could be sued for as little as $500. Court costs are very low. While in States like Pennsylvania and Florida for example the minmum is $1500.

Most apartment complexes will allow the collection agency to sue in the majority of the States for a minimum of $1000. Hunter Warfield does have a legal dept and does sue the debtors a lot. I had a friend of mine it happened to.

Cease and Desist does not guarantee you that you won't get sued by them.
