- noelleI got the same call a week ago from another number and a guy named shawn white. I looked it up and found out it was a scam that originated in India. Now this number and a lady with the same last name white. They both had an Indian accent. I had no idea White was such a common name of people from Indian descent. I guess they think we are stupid. The 1 st call said I would be arrested within the hour but they could tell me no names of the companies they claimed I owed. Big scam!

- PucciI've been receiving calls from Steven Jack. They left several messages on how they have my ss # and there's a law suit against me. He also wanted to know if i had a lawyer and wanted her name. As much as he was over takling me, I did the same to him. He hung up after this. So I tried to call back and the line beeped like an answering service came on. Now what do i Do. I think next time I'll try to get more information, may an address and his ss#, lol. but this #### is serious.
- Gina| 1 replyPucci- Same guy called me today, Steven Jack!!! Said my husband's SS# was being investigated blah, blah, blah. He said it was regarding a payday loan we took out and never repaid. I let him do his little thing and then asked who the payday company was and he said he can't give out that info. I asked how much it was for and he said he had no way of knowing. I asked when we took it out and he said 4 months ago. While I was speaking with him I double checked my bank account online, just to be 100% sure, and went as far back as March 2012 and there was nothing. Eventually I asked him, "What would you say if I told you neither my husband or myself have EVER taken out a payday loan? Then he changed his tune, got real nasty, suggested I get a lawyer. So I called his bluff. I'm going to refer to Mr Jack as "scum" and this was our conversation:
Me: Oh I remember that loan now, how do I make this go away? Can I just pay you what we owe and be done with it?
Scum: Yes.
Me: Can I have your address to mail a check.
Scum: No, I'm not allowed to give that out. You can pay with a check over the phone.
Me: OK, how much is it for?
Scum: I have no way of knowing that. What you need to do it give me a check over the phone for $500 and if it's more than that we will bill you and if it's was less we will refund you.
Me: How will you refund me?
Scum: A check will be sent to your house.
Me: Do you have my address?
Scum: Yes.
Me: Can you read it to me so I can make sure it's correct.
Scum: I'm not allowed to give out your personal information.
Me: OK, so you're telling me I owe a company money but you can't tell me the name of the company, how much I owe or when I borrowed it and you expect me to just hand over $500?
Scum: Ma'am you need to understand that we're a 3rd party and are not permitted that information.
Me: You said you have my address ... send me a written bill with proof that we took out this loan and I will send you a check that very same day I receive it. Otherwise, don't ever call here again! - Alfalfa replies to GinaBrilliant! Good for You!!
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

I know how the ball game goes and I've heard their VMs -- clearly from India.
So before he could even start his "broken speech". I confused him like crazy, asking him where he's calling from, what company, where they were located. And I got David Miller running in circles!
He said that if i had any questions that i should talk to his Supervisor.. I asked for that person 3 times.. then went on asking more questions..
he gave up and hung up --
