Blocked.  I used to get many telemarketing/scam calls.  My phone is via cable and I use a Panasonic telephone that has a setting to disable the first ring.  My computer does not have a voice modem, so I purchased one for $10.  The software I use is called Phonetray Free and works great.  After the first call, a number is blocked and then no more calls.  Each call is in a log. The software also allows blocking of entire AREA CODES (like New York area, Miami, California, etc.).  Only spoofed numbers can pass but since most spoofer are not too bright, they use the same number therefore no problem.  My call volume has dropped by 99%.  Phonetray Free has been replaced by Phonetray Pro from Softonic ($30).  I have no personal stake in any of this.

I would suggest NOT following the instructions provided by these robo callers.  Once you've shown them that you answer your phone and follow their prompts they will continue to harass you.  The "opt out by pressing a #" is a scam just like their business.

    What is Xarelto?

The medication Xarelto (also called Rivaroxaban in its generic form) is a blood thinner that is used to prevent the formation of blood clots, and treat blood clotting in conditions such as pulmonary embolism, or deep vein thrombosis.

Xarelto is an anticoagulant manufactured by Bayer and Janssen Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson. This drug is often prescribed to prevent deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke, and atrial fibrillation. It is often prescribed after hip or knee replacement surgery.

Xarelto is known as a direct thrombin inhibitor and was designed to compete with a drug called Pradaxa. Similarly, Pradaxa has been prescribed to reduce the risk of stroke, as well as treat blood clots.

The manufacturing and sale of these drugs is a very profitable venture. The total anticoagulant market is estimated at making over $10 billion annually. Xarelto sales were estimated at $1.3 billion in 2013 and over $5 billion in 2014.

    Drug Alert: Xarelto Side Effects

It has been discovered that Xarelto can cause severe internal bleeding that can be fatal. Unlike other blood thinning medications, there are no known antitodes for this side effect.

Unfortunately, taking this drug has been associated with various serious side effects. They can include:
    • Death
    • Fatal internal bleeding
    • Excessive or uncontrolled bleeding
    • Stroke
    • Hemorrhaging
    • Retinal hemorrhages
    • Epidural hematoma
    • Pulmonary embolism
    • Decreased hemoglobin
    • Adrenal bleeding
    • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
    • Intracranial hemorrhages

Other common side effects caused by Xarelto can include:
    • Swelling
    • Low blood pressure
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Muscle pain

Xarelto can also cause patients to bleed more easily, especially if they have:
    • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
    • Stroke
    • Other bleeding disorders

What is unique about Xarelto is that unlike other anticoagulants, there are no blood monitoring or dietary restrictions necessary when taking it.

Blood thinners are known to cause excessive bleeding. If this occurs with other drugs, such as Coumadin, an antidote (vitamin K) can be given to offset the bleeding. Xarelto has no known antidote, so it is more dangerous than other blood thinners.

    St. Louis Xarelto Lawyer

According to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, Xarelto has been associated with “serious disabling or fatal injury.”

If you have been injured by this drug, it is important to take prompt action. If you or a loved one has taken Xarelto and experienced an uncontrolled bleeding event, it is important to know that you may be entitled to compensation or reimbursement for your injuries, including:
    • medical expenses
    • pain and suffering
    • loss of income

    Xarelto Bleeding Lawsuits

This drug was approved in November 2011. As of early 2012, the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that there were already 350 reports of adverse events related to Xarelto.

Currently, there is no class action filed against the manufacturers of Xarelto, although individual lawsuits are being filed. The cases allege that severe bleeding events occurred, often caused by no more than a small cut.

Further, plaintiffs claim that they did not receive adequate warnings of the dangers and that there was no antidote to this uncontrolled bleeding. Even though doctors are unable to control or reverse these dangerous side effects of Xarelto, Bayer has not recalled the drug.

Xarelto Cases Filed Against Janssen Pharmaceuticals

As a result of complaints being reported, the FDA issued a warning letter, stating that a printed ad did not adequately warn consumers of the Xarelto risks involved.

Presently, there are approximately 300 lawsuits filed against the makers of Xarelto, which include Bayer Healthcare and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen Pharmaceuticals subsidiary. These cases have been consolidated in the state of Louisiana. There are another 180 cases that have been filed in Pennsylvania.

While the number of cases is still relatively low, it is speculated that the number of cases filed against Janssen Pharmaceuticals will increase exponentially.

Although my caller ID didn't say Xerelto Claims, that's who it was, about the class action lawsuit.  They left me a message because I don't answer any strange numbers ever.  I've said telemarketer because I see no reason for this phone call.
