"Missouri" number left voicemail.  Here it is, verbatim (sounded like first few words were cut off):  "... filing a legal warrant under your name and your tax ID for the tax fraud and the investigating team of our department is investigating you and your family.  We have tried to notify you regarding this issue in the previous 6 months but we have never got response from you.   So it has been considered as an intentional fraud and lawsuit has been filed under your name by the United States government.  You may call our department number 816-272-4521. ... Call for more information before we download your case into the courthouse.  Thank you."

Whatever "department" it was supposed to be was never mentioned.  The voice sounded like a female robot voice, with slightly odd speaking rhythm, i.e. there was a weird pause after the weird SO.  I guess I'd better go and call them now, before they download my case "into the courthouse" .

:-\  I'm kind of surprised I'm the first one to leave a 1-800-note; I bet they're using multiple numbers and there are other notes like mine elsewhere.

After looking a bit more, I found complaints at other sites (whycallme/reportthecall etc) for this number from people who also received the exact same recorded message.

IRS scam.  Surprised you haven't heard of it.

My mother-in-law received several phone calls from that number and was frantic.  I told her that neither IRS nor Social Security would ever call with such request and obviously a scam.  Besides, that number cannot be called back, fast busy when I called.

Calls, leaves no message

The caller sent me a text saying that he was in the cartel here in San diego and he wanted $2000 or my family would start to be executed as well as me!!
he gave a handful of family names probably got it off of Facebook
I just simply asked him to come over and collect it
I unfortunately went to Catholic school with a lot of the higher-ups and some of the cartels texting you and phone calling you and threatening you is not the way they do business!!!!!!
he warned me that this is no joke he’s a man of his word!!
I said The next time you contact me I will forward you to some of the people that I grew up with and he will find out what no joke means,

I will say that I find it interesting that I separated from a girlfriend in October and since then I’ve been hit up by about five people like this!!

It is very doubtful that your breakup with your girlfriend has anything to do with receiving these texts.
In any case, forward unwanted spam/scam texts to 7726 (SPAM) and let your phone service provider deal with them.
That number was set up by the phone companies to combat spam texts and they can shutdown offending phone numbers.
Never reply with "STOP", scammers will not honor the request (they have no honor to begin with) and it only verifies that they have texted to a valid number and a person who reads their texts.  It will not STOP the texts and may actually make them more frequent.
Never click on a link in such a text as it may cause malware to be inserted on your phone, and even if it does not, just as with replying "STOP" the scammers will know they reached a valid number.
