Called looking for my uncle whom I do not have contact information for. Must've found my cell # by just noticing we have an unusual last name and live in the same area. William Hurt claimed it was regarding the Ohio Transportation Dept and that it was regarding his driving license, but then when I asked for a call back # he said he was from the Law Office of JW Smith from California. Liar! I did not give him any information.

Although I haven't received a call from this attorney, I did receive a letter which threatened to sue me because I was forced to break my apartment lease.  After reading the reviews of this particular attorney, I went to the California Bar Association website and got the address that Jay W. Smith
had listed with the bar.  I then did a little research and learned that the address he had given to the bar was a park in Chatsworth, CA.  My research also posted a picture of the address which was a picture of a tree!  Since I live relatively close to Chatsworth, I drove to the address listed with the bar and low and behold, it was Rocky Peak Park.  What a joke this guy is.  I'm contacting the California Bar Association and informing them that this guy registered under a false address.

This guy Barry has just called me from JW Smith 818-709-2556.

He looked up all my social media information, including linked in, and has harrassed me with questions about my business, endeavours, my home, family....   Incredibly intrusive, this has to be illegal!!!  I will report this immediately to State of Florida DA.

Have these people started legal action with anyone of you?  Did you settle or what was the outcome?

I also got calls from the same number 818-709-2558, Darlene, threaten me if I don't pay the promissory note, she will file a court law suit aganst me.
I tried to negotiate the promissiory note, she was willing to lower the amount by $20,000 but not low enough for me to want to settle the debt.
So I ignore her and she never call me back.

Have anyone negotiated a promissory note down to 10 cents for a dollar?

We got a Certified Mail request. I Google the sender name and I am reading all this. We had a Promisorio Note for a short sale on a condo for 30k, debt that the bank sold to multiple collection agencies. The statute of limitations in FL is 5 years. We finally got out of the credit records. And they can't  sue us in Cour anymore.    This JWS is just a joker train to scare people. Learn about debt collection, your rights and stature of limitations in your state. Good luck! AM

Looks like a criminal subrogation and commercial collection outfit out of California that doesn't have to follow the FDCPA.  Most likely that is why they chose to collect those types of debts.  That way they could hire all the convicted felons they want and not face any repercussions.
