- DontPlayGuy with a southern accent. Said his name was "QT" or something like that. Also said he was with the Iowa Fraudulent Check Division which does not exist. My guess he is a dept collector or works for ACE check cashing. Do not trust this clown or give him any information. Will lie and try to intimidate
- Fee| 4 repliesCalled me about another person and said that they was with the Bad Check Fraud. Tried ti intimidate me and told me to govern myself accordingly.
- Alfalfa replies to Fee| 3 repliesConsumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt076.shtm - rob wThis guy called my wife to collect a loan from 2006. The business went under in 2007 and the company he said he was from started in 2010. He demanded 800.00 by money gram in two hours or she would be arrested. He said he was on the phone with the District Atty. I told her to tell him to call me, which he never did. The police in our town said to not have conversations over the phone because it was probably a scam. Now I find out it is a scam. He also used the govern yourself accordingly!

- ConcernedThis guy called my mothers house which a collection company previously had for my ex boyfriend and father of my son as a credit ref only. He said his name is TK Larson. When my mother called the number back from her caller id (also the number he left) another person answered and said TK Larson Fraud division. Now he told my mother my ex boyfriend was in trouble for fraud. This number is coming from 832-377-3064. When i called it a personal voice mail picked up with no company name or persons name on it. My mother had told all companies to take her off the list to be called for collections as she has no contact with him and he has never lived with her. I cant believe if someone is put down for a credit ref. that they can be harassed in this manor. I would like to find out who this guy works for...

- annoyedThis same man has called members of my family & friends & has even upset my elderly grandmother by saying I will be arrested for check fraud. He has used several different company names such as.."Check Fraud Division", "Eliminator Prosections", & the another time he said he worked for some type of law office. The name that appeared on my grandmothers caller id is "Nextivia Inc.". He even told me he worked for the state of Texas. When I finally agreed to speak with him he claimed to be on the other line with the "prosecutor" & he would have to call me back. I decided to ask someone for legal advise & I was instructed to make sure to ask him (1) what is the name of the office where you work? (2) what is the mailing address? (3) are you an atty & what is your bar number? Also, refuse to discuss any personal info over the phone. I searched this number..(832-377-3064) & found this site.
