Scam!! Do not trust this number !

Wanted to buy for their cousin as a surprise. No shipment needed. Would have mover come for it. Wanted to do transaction by PayPal only. This was from a Craigslist listing. This is the second such SCAM that I have received since listing my item.

Avoid the Craigslist hangover- In your ad, put "Local only, Cash only, No text Msg." Craigslist, Kijiji are Cash & carry folks. No cash, no carry.

This number is at it again he has contacted us using a name of Joe Phillips same story buying for his cousing only through pay he wanting us to pay mover in advance for him by western union....I'm going to turn # and him over to attorney general he probably scamming people who are nieve enough to send the money to western union.  I suggest everyone do the same to report him or this # to attorney general.

Same here, wants my 4 wheeler and pay by paypal. I did nothing but it soulds like a scam. He didn't ask me to send money by western union.....would not let him get that far.

Something felt fishy about this! Glad I decided to look this number up!!

Got the same message from this spammer about buying a car for his cousin...sounded too good to be true!!!

Recieved a text to purchase an item I had for sale online. It was a surprise for his cousin and was it in good shape? He wanted to pay by paypal only and have his mover come in to inspect and pickup the item after the payment had cleared to get the item. He said his name was Joe Philips from Texas.

Just got the same text. After reading this I told him NOT for sale!

Just got the same from it, wants to buy $30,000 race truck for cousin and has his own mover. Im just gonna play along and waste his time.

First message, out of the blue:
"Is it still available for sale? 2011 Chevrolet Equinox 2LT AWD $21,000"
Me:Yes, the vehicle is still available.

(punctuation his own)

"I'm just asking about it to make sure its in good condition as im buying it for my cousin as a surprise and he doesn't know about it, so can you assure me i will not be disappointed? also no shipment involved as i have a mover that will come for it.Im satisfied with your firm/advert price, As im requesting this transaction should be done via PayPal so the"

Me: *checks the interwebs* Scammity scam scam.

"Actually I just got a quick local offer and somebody came and picked it up"

I received a skam the same story the guy was texting me on my cell phone to buy my car and he want me to open a paypal account to deposit the money he said asap.

I just got one of the same text messages today, These people have little to do to just sit and hope they will con someone into going along with what they want.  I wasn't born yesterday knowing the costs there would be to send a truck to texas from canada.

Just got the same message from this number. Asking if the vehicle was still for sale.

Messaged me asking if the car was for sale still. Offered to pay VIA paypal, was buying for their cousin....SCAM!!!!

Same scam wanted to buy quad from me for surprise for cousin , wanted PayPal , said email transfer and got rude when didn't send PayPal account

He's still at it.  I received the exact same text message as Alex for my car listing on Craigs.

Same [***] wants to buy my piece of $£¡T pontiac for his loser cousin......cant imagine how surprised his cousin is going to be when he has to insure all this crap. lol.
called him out right away and searched his number....

There is no cousin. There is no insurance needed as they have no intention of picking up your car. They are trying to get you to pay up front for something that they say will be reimbursed (usually moving costs) and then they split with your money. Sometimes they even provide you with a bad check up front that includes these costs.  If someone tries to overpay you for something you are selling, it is probably a scam. This is just a variation of the Nigerian letter "advance fee" scam.

Here is how the "PayPal Scam" works:

Says they will buy the item and will pay extra to cover charges by his shipping agent.
Says he will PayPal the funds and instruct you to send the extra money via wire transfer or pre-paid card to the agent.
He then sends you a fake PayPal deposit notice email, spoofing the official PayPal notice, that says the money has been put into your account.
You, thinking PayPal has your money, go ahead with the wire/prepaid transfer to the shipping agent, who is really the scammer.
After that, you then find out there was no money transferred to PayPal and are out the money your wired.


Here is how a "Craigslist Scam" or any other "I will send you a check for more than you asked" scam works:

He pays for the item + extra funds to cover his shipping agent costs with a bank draft or cashiers check.
He sends you a check, tells you to cash it and send the extra money to his shipping agent via wire transfer or prepaid card.
You cash/deposit check and wire/prepaid the funds to the agent.
Later, the check bounces as it was counterfeit. The money you sent to the agent, who is really the scammer, is unrecoverable due to it being wire transferred/prepaid card.
You are out money and now run the risk of being arrested for passing a counterfeit check.
