- BigA replies to TessaYes, Sirius is a paid subscription and as such is entitled to your information.

No doubt that you never did, but the folks at the dealership do, as part of their delivery prep checklist. Before they hand over the keys to you they make sure you are all signed up to "enjoy" the "free trial" using the information you gave them as part of the purchase process.Tessa wrote:...as I never activated the trial even.
I have had two cars so far with that "feature" built-in and never had any intention of activating it, yet on both I discovered it was functioning the first time I stepped through the various audio sources. Salesperson never asked, just turned it on.
They were somewhat persistent with calls for a short time after the trial period expired, but for me they did not stay at it for too long, most probably because I gave the dealership my work number, so their calls were greeted with an announcement of the company I work for before I would even identify myself. Evening calls got the same company greeting on the voicemail announcement and they seldom left a message. I would say that after about 4 months I quit getting calls.
The letters were something else. A letter about every other week for four or five months after the trial ended. Always touting a "great savings" if I reactivated right away. I would just look at the numbers and think "Look at how much I am saving by NOT reactivating" just before I slid their letter into the slot on my paper shredder. Letters would stop, and them start again for a few weeks around the anniversary of my car purchase (more fodder for the shredder). I am guessing that they do not think people keep cars for longer than about 4 years, because around the 4-year mark was the last time I got anything from them.
If you are annoyed by their calls and letters and want it to cease quickly, follow the advice in the post by "BigA" that you replied to, and send them a letter telling them to stop calling and writing.
Otherwise you can always just block their number(s) and treat their letters as the junk mail they are (just make sure to shred them before throwing them away so nobody can glean any personal information from them.) On the off chance that they include a business-reply prepaid return envelope in any of their letters, have some fun and fill it with other junk paper (nothing identifying you) and mail it back to them at their expense. (I do not get to do that as much as I used to, but I really use to enjoy taking all the glossy advert sheets I would get in junk mail and sending them back to the advertiser in the reply envelope they sent me.) - Vee replies to BobSame here. I'm getting calls from them, despite never having used them for anything. They're parasites.
- VeeI've *never* used Sirius, and haven't owned a car for literally decades, long before Sirius even existed. But now they're suddenly calling me every day. Thank the gods my cell phone provider has a call screen that won't let them ring through without passing a verification test first, or my phone would never stop ringing.

- Tony| 3 repliesFurther update. After contacting them directly and asking them to lose my number, they confirmed that I had been added to their "Do Not Contact" list and my preferences will take effect within 3-5 business days for phone & email and up to 14 days for direct mail. That was April 25th. Today on May 9th, they called again.
If only there was regulatory body with teeth that would address this type of nonsense. Please do not say the "do not call" registry. That has proven to be ineffective as well and many have reported an increase in spam calls after registering. What needs to happen is a BIG fine!- Caller: SiriusXM Canada

It is only for Sales calls and since so many people simply think it is a call blocker for all types of calls, they report their missed calls, scam calls, debt collection calls, etc. to the DNC. Now take into consideration how many non DNC violation reports they have to sift through to get to the ones that require their attention and you should be able to understand they won't be taking immediate action right after giving them real info about a DNC violator.Quote:the "do not call" registry. That has proven to be ineffective - ChrisI've cancelled their subscription because they were at a reasonnable cost for a couple of months but then, BAM! Got screwed big time and i had to cut on monthly subscription crap$$$. Now they are calling everyday to get me back, and since a couple of days, they just call and a few seconds after i talk, they hang up! Terrible company

- TonySiriusXM Canada continues to call and send me snail mail despite a written confirmation from them that I was put on their "do not contact". I have 3 blocked calls and 2 letters in the last 90 asking me to rejoin. Before that, they were calling every day. I legally cancelled my subscription once it ended and my bill was paid in full every month. I do not owe them money. Has anyone succeeded in getting these people fined? My next step is to report them to the CRTC and any other regulatory body that will listen. I just wrote them again, insisting they cease contacting me or I will report them to the CRTC and work from there. I also see they have poor ratings with the BBB and some other online sites I found.

- Tony replies to MikeHuntleton| 1 replyNot interested in excuses, but thanks. I did not learn anything new. These are sales calls and letters, so your post is irrelevant in my case.
- MikeHuntleton replies to TonyI was merely commenting about the DNC's ineffectiveness and wasn't making excuses for them, just pointing out something I am aware of about the process. I am not sure what was irrelevant about my answer.
I do know for a fact it is an effective deterrent for legitimate telemarketers, but there will always be a criminal element that will ignore Laws/Rules. If you take those calls and letters to an attorney, you can sue them for violations. Complaining aimlessly is just a way to blow off steam and not really going to stop a violator. - GTPeriodically frequent calls that I have blocked for the last few months at two different numbers. Got a letter today stamped "Important Information Inside" LOL - straight into the recycling bin. I bought a used car recently and I suspect that the dealer passed on my phone and address by signing me up for a free trial. I have never done any business with them and never will.

- GhostApparently this is Sirius xm? I've never had a subscription. I was looking to buy a vehicle that had Sirius but no Bluetooth so I casually looked them up to see what a subscription would cost. My current vehicle has a cassette player ffs. I in no way gave them my personal information but have since been receiving emails, and now phone calls, from them.
- TrevorI had two accounts, one for my Nissan, and one for my home that was a free trial. I canceled the free trial and kept the vehicle subscription. And now they are calling me relentlessly every day.

- SofI bought a second-hand car that previously had Sirius. I never used it. Ignored ALL their offers 9It's been a tear) and now they call me. I barely use the actual radio, why would I pay for more of that?

- VanIsleThis number repeatedly calls my cell phone, but shows up as "Unknown Caller". I never answer, and they never leave a voice message so I'm not sure who it is, or what they want. If it is Sirius XM as reported by other posters, I've never had, nor am I interested in purchasing a subscription. I suppose I'll just continue ignoring their calls, and they can continue not leaving messages.
