A person called saying they were a process server named ( ?) Johnson and that he was calling to tell me a police officer or sheriff would be coming to my home or job to serve me with court documents today between 11 am and 5 pm. And that I should call this # 833- 669- 1519.  They originally called from 214-396-5611 which comes up as a spam number.

Police do not serve court documents in civil cases.  Process servers do not call ahead.

The fake process server/location finder extortion SCAM usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

Fake Process Server.

They call me all day everyday.  But I eventually called back multiple times and aggravated them enough they quit calling me! Scammers!

Got a call from phone number 360-226-0883 from Leah Jackson of Ventura County processing unit informing me of case number AM-11336, I have been notified and to contact number 833-669-1519

Just called me said I would be arrested in three hours if I didn’t pay a debt from 2017

Said they had made numerous attempts to collect a debt I owed and was turning it over to a collection agency and I needed to call 833-669-1519

They called my brother. I knew it was a scam. I wouldn’t even waste a minute worrying.

Lea Jackson gets around...she called me today from 833 669-1519 and 833-231-0188 saying she was with Emily Scott's Law Office in Richland County, SC with an AM-14247 case number.  Don't they know how hot hell really is?

Got a call this morning from Leah Johnson for my ex-husband. They had last four of ssn, his address and my address and advised they would be going to serve court documents case # AM***** and to call 833-669-1519 call came from 209-245-0561. Glad I goggled the info to know it's a SCAM. Thanks everyone.

One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them so that they can scare that person into paying extortion money.  They will usually also state information that would be illegal for a real debt collector to state to department and tell them that you are a deadbeat who does not pay their bills.  They often call people that have never even been a third party such as that you are being sued, that you owe money to someone, etc. They threaten that if you do not call them back, they will contact your HR associated with you because they get erroneous information off the internet.

It’s a scare tactic to get you to call back. The police won’t waste their time to arrest someone over debt.

Also it’s illegal for them to threaten you like that.

Received voice mail 3 times this week from 833-669-1519.  Poorly recorded message claiming some kind of legal action regarding Social Security.  Call was made from this number:  1-360-0883.  It's a scam.  Don't respond

I called this number back that was mentioned in a voicemail. The originally number they called from was my home area code. The guy answered and when I mentioned they were a scam he got all defensive and said “do I sound like I’m from East India.” So what? Still a scam!

Claims legal action against my social security number is going to meet me at work with agents to serve me. Cm-3307 or 164376.

1) recording starts in the middle of a sentence
2) artificial human voice is replaced with a robotic voice when reading the claim #
3) sentence structure is too casual … “ now to speak…. “
4) scammer !!!
5) last sentence is quite odd and questionable and not even necessary , ie fake ruse …
called from same area code as users phone number so as to trick the user to answering the call.
