- sharon| 3 repliesI would like to know also. Called my daughter looking for me, contact Scott Green at Patterson Legal 833-883-2828. I presume scam.
- BigA replies to sharonOne of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money. They often call people that have never even been associated with you because they get erroneous information off of the internet.
The fake process server/location specialist scam usually contains:
They mention that they have received a Fax document or that some sort of complaint has “come across my desk” and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency. They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer). They threaten to serve you at home or at work. They tell you that if they serve you at work they need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work. They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID. None of which is true. Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them. Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else. They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”. Court documents are time sensitive and have to be served within a certain amount of time. Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there is actually a lawsuit that has been filed against you.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter, email, or text (postmarked in the case of a letter) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. Unless they have communicated it to you verbally at the beginning of your conversation. It also must contain the “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this communication must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that communication you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

- Shannon| 2 repliesThis is a repost from the notes I entered for the number that called me (833-883-2792): I received a call/voicemail today from a recorded caller claiming to be Patterson Legal Services stating "my office has been retained to make a final decision on your case... ...if you have already received the summons to appear in court please disregard this call, hang up and call your county court office... ...if you have not received the summons yet... ...contact my office today before the end of business at 833-883-2828. You have been notified, good luck." Lots of scam red flags, no personal details, created sense of urgency, cold call with nothing received in the post, on top of the fact that Patterson Legal Group services a portion of California and I do not reside in their service area. Also, I called my county courts (all of them) and nothing was found of note. So be advised. I felt the repost was relevant due to the call back number being mentioned above multiple times in conjunction with Patterson Legal Services.

- smashogre replies to Shannon| 1 replyI just called Patterson Legal Services and discovered they are a very helpful small family run legal process server in Northern California. They have only one phone number and are very aware that their business name is being abused for both debt collection and now legal summons scams. Here is their website for context: https://www.pattersonlegalservices.com/
- BigA replies to smashogreYou are assuming that there is only one Patterson Legal Services in the US. There are two currently active and 7 that are not. I don't know why they are not active as I did not check to find out. So it could have been any one of the other 8 assuming that the ones that are not active are not out of business.
- KNW| 1 replyI received a call from a Crystal Mason who says she is an investigator for Patterson legal and threatens saying the county I live the judge signed a Writ Order against me for a Civil case. I contacted the Courts and they have no notification such as this Said she could be reached back at 833-883-2828 ext. 111 even though the phone number she called from is 334-245-1869. These people have called relatives and friends and I get the message. I am also reporting this to our district attorney's office, so they can investigate and file charges.

- TiffanyJust received a call from a 463 area code with a message that included my maiden name that I haven’t used in 18 years and the correct last four numbers of my social security number. The caller stated his name was Investigator Scott Green from Patterson Legal and I had to call 833-883-2828 by the end of business today if I wanted a chance to resolve this matter. This has to be a scam, I’ve never received any paperwork regarding any pending court cases or debts.

- MarieSo not only did this local number call me that I did not recognize and did not answer it called my son's phone too. This is one pissed off Momma Bear right now. They left a threating messaging stating this. "This message is intended for my name, I am Scott Green with Patterson Legal this is our second attempt to contact you regarding a complaint against you, if you fail to call back to 1-833-883 2828 EXT 110 by the end of the day it will have further legal actions." First, I have no complaints whatever, second even if I did, I would get a notice from whomever through the mail or a deputy would come to my door. After reading several of these complaints I am not even worried. However, I felt the need to fill this form out, as they called my son.

So they sent to my daughter’s phone after I blocked them . But the part where I have not received my salmon . “Have been notified “ this is such a scam- Caller: Don’t know
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- BigA replies to Betty wright| 1 replyThey wanted to notify you that you have not received your "salmon"?
- Nimrod replies to BigAI think this is another case of a person posting the voice-to-text transcript of their voicemail and that was the software's guess on a slightly garbled or faintly spoken word. I truly wish people would not put so much blind trust in the accuracy of such phone "features".
If I am wrong, I hope the law firm packed the "salmon" well, with a lot of ice. - Morgan"This message is solely intended for [redacted] I'm calling with Patterson legal services my office has been routine to make a final decision on your case we are in the process of expediting your case over to the court it is imperative that you or your attorney return this call by the end of business today if you have already received the summons to appear in court please disregard this call hang up and contact your county court office if you have not received the summons to appear in court please disregard this call hang up and contact your county court office if you have not received the summons yet you or your attorney needs to contact my office today before the end of business at
