I got a call from them saying I owed money from a loan in early 2000 I know this is a scam but have you heard back from them??

Saying I had a loan on 2004.. I owe 700.00 put can settle for 400.00

They called and said someone had used my husbands SS# or other id to cash a check. That they were verifying the phone number. This happened when we were out of power and living without heat or water. They didn't ask for money because I started drilling them about which company it was and who they were. It seems that all they wanted was for me to "verify" my husbands phone number.
