- Steven| 1 replyThey claimed I defaulted on a loan taken out back in July of 2011, and that my bank account was listed to pay back the loan, but that there was insufficient funds. Only thing is, I didn't even open my account until a month after that. And I have never taken out a loan of any kind. They had all my information, too. Social, address, email, and at least the last four digits of my bank account number. Asked them if I could fax them the paper showing when my account was opened, and they said they didn't have a fax machine. What kind of legal department doesn't have a fax machine? Scam!

- David Nelmes| 1 replyCalled to say I owed on a $300 loan taken from some Alliance place in 2011, but never paid due to insufficient funds, but now want $800 or it will escalate to $2200 with legal fees. Had all my data and SS #, but is not a valid loan, and/or it was paid long ago, but have no memory of it. may have applied to something like this, but never went through with it. Somebody sold or stole a database from them and now the info is being used to scare people into paying money that was never owed.

- Johanna| 5 repliesI just received an extremely threatening voice message from this phone number. When I called them back, the man that answered said that I took out a loan (which is bogus) in May of 2012 and never repaid them. He had all my information too (social, address - which was a really old one, what company I work for, and the last 4-digits of my bank account). He was telling me that they are either going to take legal action against me or I needed to pay him over the phone. When I asked for more information about this "loan" and requested to see supporting paperwork that I took out this supposed loan, he refused to provide me with the information and said that he couldn't do such a thing. Legally, your are entitled to see any and all documentation for any such matter. These people are just trying to scare you in hopes that you'll give in a pay them! This is a complete SCAM!

- Karissa replies to Johanna| 4 replieshow do we report these people it is very scary they have are full social does anyone know what to do? I called my attorney and he said this is a scam and they cant garnish my wages for a loan I never took out
- Johanna replies to Karissa| 1 replyMy dad, who is a fraud specialist, has advised me to keep the phone number on my phone and the threatening voice message they left me. He said my next step is to report this to the FBI, especially since a lot of people are being affected by this. Also, if you haven't already one so, make sure you contact the three (3) credit bureaus about this. I contacted them and there is a hold on my social; in case anyone tries to place an inquiry or do anything in relation to my SSN.
- Karissa replies to JohannaOkay thank you very much I will call the 3 credit bureaus
- Johanna replies to Karissa| 1 replyAlso, their garnishment threat is just that... a threat! Before a debt goes to garnishments, the lender has to send you the loan information/documentation to verify that the loan was valid and outstanding. Since they wouldn't provide me with such documentation, that's how I knew it was a scam.
- Strphen replies to JohannaAsk for there address and account number. Send them a cease and desist letter. You can google the templet. They are all talk.
- MarieThis number called me and left me a threatening to get a message to my sister (who lives 900+ miles away from me) or they would go to her place of work or home. I thought it was a legit creditor of hers. I am glad I found this feedback on here. I had already called them and threatened to have them charged with harassment by communication if they call my number again (all the while, she kept trying to talk over me to get a message to her and then she hung up on me. I called them back and asked to speak to a supervisor and she would not give me to a supervisor and asked again for the reference # they left on my answering machine. She then said my number had been removed from their contacts due to my previous call. I don't know how they got my number connected to my sister, but I was not happy that her supposed creditors where calling me. Now that I know it is a scam, I will give her a heads up about it, in case they try to reach her directly.

- David replies to David NelmesJust wanted to add, report this kind of activity to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/#debt-collection
Not only will this help prevent others from receiving these calls, but you will get feedback as to what finally happens. - CWG40 replies to Karissa| 1 replyTotal scam. You've been the subject of a "Stark Attack". This looks like Stark Law Firm's work. Or Stark Recovery-- which is probably the same group.
In any event, only a judge can issue an order of garnishment. Garnishment rates are limited and some states do not allow them. In order for there to be an order for garnishment, there would have to be a court case in your state where all parties are given a chance to make their case. No debt collector can arbitrarily garnish anyone's wages.
These debt scamming operations almost never go to court; they rely on empty threats. Do not fall for it.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
If they are bothering you,
Report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now. - CWG40 replies to KarissaReport them:

- Katie| 1 replyJust received a call from this number today stating I took out a payday loan for $300 on March 2011 and now owe $810. They had all of my information - old bank accounts, SSN, old address. They refused to send me documentation, told me I can't contact the lender (Pack Management) because they won't speak to me. I did try calling some of the numbers I could locate for Pack and their aliases but no luck. When I refused to pay, she told me they will sue me.

- Joey| 2 repliesI received a call a few minutes ago but answered the phone too late. So the guy left a voicemail. He said his name was Daniel Shaw. How funny because a few months ago I had someone by the same name call looking for someone with a similar name to mine, but not me. Also, he had my maiden name, which I haven't used in at least 8 years. He gave me a social and it was not mine. He said "Well why would someone use your name to obtain credit?" I said, first of all, that is NOT my name. He asked me a few more questions, asked if I knew a few people and I said no. And honestly I didn't know anyone of the people he mentioned. So he eventually gave up (he wasn't rude and didn't hang up on me).
Today anyways when I tried the number back, a lady answered with some generic "Legal Office". And I said "Where am I calling?" and she hung up. I'm assuming it's a scam. What are the odds of a person using the same name (voice was different, this guy had a accent) to call me again a few months later?- Call type: Debt collector
