- Fed Up| 1 replyCalled back and told them to NEVER call me again and i hung up. Called me right back...from a DIFFERENT phone number...and said “now that i violated your request, what do you plan to do? We have the legal right to call you once a day”, but yet he called 3 times???? I said not to call again and hung up...they called BACK and left a message that said “Alright well unfortunately call and I’ll just go ahead and have to notify the attorneys of your refusal to take care of your legal and binding obligation and don’t have to dispatch a process server to your residence to serve your summons come tomorrow morning. Have your attorney contact us. Good luck to you in court”. Per Indiana law, all legal matters are to be notified in writing. I told him to send me something in writing, and he said “we don’t have to”.

The vague scare tactic message is designed to panic a victim into calling back.
Most debt collectors will use a certain amount of pressure to convince you to pay the debt. After all, they often don't get paid unless you pay. Be suspicious of a debt collector who uses an unusual amount of pressure to get you to pay immediately, particularly if they also use scare tactics to get you to pay right away. For example, a debt collector is scamming you if it :- threatens you with a lawsuit and tells that you can avoid the lawsuit by paying right away
- Says a Process Server or Courier is coming with papers to sign
- Threatens to call / go to your place of employment
- Insists you have been notified, served or are non-compliant via phone message(s)
- Refuses to give a company name or verifiable Contact source
- Refuses to send proof of debt via US mail
A sure sign of a debt collection scam is a collector that wants to you to pay via wire transfer or another method that can't be traced. If the payment method can't be traced, you'll have a harder time getting the authorities involved.
If the creditor sounds completely foreign, or you know you never had an account with that business, there's a chance it's a scam. Never pay a collection you don't recognize. You have the right to request written proof of the debt from the debt collector before you send payment.

- CONCERNED DAUGHTERI received a phone call stating that it was a litigators office asking for my deceased father. When i told him he was deceased since 2013 he hung up. I called back to inquire what this was in reference to and was told "what does it matter and why do you care if he's deceased" and he abruptly hung up the phone.

- MichaelI get this same call every couple of days. I’ve blocked the caller number, but always the same message. Same threats about a case in their office pending against me, have my attorney call. Funny thing is I AM an attorney. No, I haven’t replied to these idiots. Some things to be aware of:
1) A debt collector (even if a legit one) cannot issue an arrest warrant or subpoena. You can be served with a lawsuit. If you have not been served with a lawsuit, they are [***] you.
2) A “claim” could mean anything. In general, there is a statue of limitations - deadline to file suit on a claim for a debt. Limitations periods vary by state. If you have an old debt, be sure to google your state’s limitations period. Expiration of limitations does not mean some jerk can try to collect on it. They just can’t do anything to legally force you to pay.
3) Failure to pay a debt is generally NOT a criminal matter (for example fraud would be criminal.) collecting a debt is a CIVIL legal matter. You cannot be arrested for a civil matter.- Call type: Scam suspicion
- namers replies to Fed UpWHEN YOU PICK UP THE PHONE AND HEAR NOTHING, IMMEDIATELY HANG UP, PERIOD.
- AngryThis number calls and leaves a case number, and tells you to call back - I called back and the people are rude, say they are a law firm??!!
- DocSame story as most of you. They repeatedly call and threaten legal action. They tell you to press 1 to speak with an agent. They gave a case# for reference and mentioned the name Alan Wood Associates. I hung up and I'm not calling them back. If this was legit, they would send a certified letter or something through the mail. It's probably a company that has bought old debts and are trying to collect on them. I paid off my credit cards years ago and recently paid off my house. I know I don't owe these jokers anything!
- Caller: Alan Wood Associates?
