- AJI keep getting phone calls from this number and other random numbers across the state of Texas. The caller leaves a voicemail and each time it comes in different variations - some say it's PRS, Premier Resolution Services, PRS Law Firm, PRS & Associates. Some calls state they are calling about a debt, some say they want to speak to my lawyer, some say they want to serve me within 24 hours, some said that by Texas law they have to notify me of a court date within 72 hours, one even said he was at my place of employment but I was unavailable. (No one ever showed up at my job.) It's very odd - I don't have anything outstanding on my credit reports, they won't identify who or what debt they are calling about, and I look up the names they have given me and I can't find anything legit on who they are or what they do or how to contact via mail.
- Caller: PRS, Premier Resolution Services, PRS Law Firm, PRS & Associates
- Call type: Debt collector
- CI| 1 replyThis number has called several members of my family's cell phones, leaving threatening voicemails about a claim number and needing to speak with my lawyers about bank fees. I don't have a bank account or anything owed. I can't seem to get in contact with the man, Phillip Avery, after attempting to call back.
- Caller: PI & Associates
- Call type: Debt collector
- Alfalfa replies to CIHow can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/ - Renee| 2 repliesI received a call from 'unknown ' number but left the above number as a contact. They called at 7:08am and left a message that I was going to be served the next week at so and so time with local authorities and make sure I have no weapons. What??
- Caller: PR associates?
- Call type: Debt collector
- not Michael replies to Renee| 1 replyIts a scammer. If you had answered in person the caller would have given you a chance to pay a large fine instead of being arrested. The fine must be paid right now, with a credit card. The scammer would then spend your card to the limit and beyond. The bit about "being served" is to scare you into falling for the scam.
Congratulations on not falling for it. - Renee replies to not MichaelYikes...thank you 'not Michael'...he also called my brother in law....which made me wonder...:/
- melinda williams| 2 repliesjust got the call saying im being server for a loan i dont even know in richmond tx dsi leaning resorce and i need to go to court are ill have to pay alot more
- Owner replies to melinda williams| 1 replyMiss Williams you did tell us that you filed bankruptcy correct? Did you get anymore calls after that i don't think so?
- ChristianNo caller ID, and left a threatening message. Couldn't make out company name. Sounds like a scam.
- Charles| 1 replyMy suggestion is to JUST HANG UP. In the future, do not accept calls from an unknown number. Legitimate debt collectors CAN NOT use unlisted or unknown numbers.
- TeeTee replies to CharlesThank you Charles... I got the same call as everyone above and caller "Unknown." They said the will send law enforcement to deliver letter, like really! Lol! They as called my niece.... People are out of control!!! They need to get an legitimate job and stop calling me!
- Doug Marshall| 1 replyUnknown caller with blocked id calls. Female, Gianna Hopkins, voice says they are trying to serve a warrant for my arrest. Says to call 844 245-9995 and gives a case number.
- Caller: Central Process Server
- TeeTee replies to Doug MarshallLol... Yes Doug, that was the exact message they left me... It cracked me up.... How are they just going to send someone out to arrest you and for what... People will do anything to scam you for your money.... Unbelievable......SMDH!
- Not Paying| 1 replyReceived a call from this number but couldn't understand the guys name. States that he has a complaint under my name and he needs to talk to me right away.. The number came up unknown. No name of a place of business but left me this number 844-245-9995 but he had to look up this number and gave me a file number 5244IL15. If I owe someone I would gladly pay but when they don't leave the name of the company .. It sounds fishy. Don't they have to send a validation of dept to you ??
- TeeTee replies to Not PayingYes they have to give you the name of the company, the address and phone number to dispute the bill if you feel you do not owe them...and if you owe a bill, who sends a cop out to help serve a bill that you may or may not owe... It's a scam!!!!
- KayI had a voicemail message from this number stating it was James Hamilton from the "Fraud Investigation Unit." From what company or agency, he didn't say. He said to call 844-245-9995 and he gave a complaint number (35207AZ15- it sounded like). He stated that someone filed a complaint with my name & SSN and they want to get my statement on the record. If I don't cooperate, they will file an Affidavit with the county. To do what, again, he didn't say.
- danny replies to OwnerDear owner why are you not listed in the BBB? Why can't your company be found? Who is Benjamin Davenport really, my lawer is determined to find out
- RonCalling me. Calling my family.Calling family i dont even talk to.Saying my wife owes money Wont give me a address. Requested validation letter. Very rude a threating. This destroyed my relationship with my father before he passed because he bought into it. This is harassment. Its been going on for years now. Usally i tell them i want a validation letter..they dont send one..i tell them to stop calling and they stop..this one is different..im temped to get a lawyer.
- GaryThese are all scams. I am not sure how they get everyone's numbers but they are relentless and somewhat humorous. Just like everyone has stated previously, ask for a Validation Letter that includes the senders physical address. They must supply any information asked in writing. Civil process servers do not have any type of law enforcement travel with them. These type of collectors are trying to use intimidation to get you to call them so they can further try to intimidate you on the phone. They do not arrest people for debts. They try to scare the uniformed. Look into the laws that they are trying to use against you and follow them for your location. It differs from state to state. Most of all just stand up for yourself and have a good laugh at their expense.
