- ESD| 1 replyMy elderly parents just called me. They have a new Mac, and when my father turned on the computer today, he got a msg that "Your computer is infected with a virus!" It listed this number as tech support to get rid of it. Otherwise, his MacBook was locked.
*To be clear, no one called my father. Instead, he was locked out of his computer and called this number in hopes of getting this company to fix his MacBook. I'm afraid that this company took advantage of him (my father already gave his credit card information, unfortunately).
The company is SK Tech Inc. Here is its address, although the website mentions an "Indian IT" group (and the person my father reached had an Indian accent):

- tj replies to ESDYesterday, 29 April, an elderly friend opened an email from someone posing as me and the same thing happened. They called the number and gave credit card info. The "company" knew who they were when they called and supposedly fixed the problem and sold them new security suite/warranty. I am trying to advise them on what they should do next. Any info appreciated.
- Chester HenryThis number asked for $159.00 to release a lock on my daughter's Verizon tablet. Is this a scam?
- SHMy elderly Mother was also scammed by this. On her Mac, she opened FireFox and received the "Your computer is infected with a virus!" message that also contained a contact number (1-844-258-2460) to call in order to remove the virus. They charged her $250.00 and she allowed them access to her computer.

Thinking this message was from from my new service went along and called phone number listed. Person with Indian accent sounded honest. - No easy fix replies to Veronica garcia| 2 repliesIn this situation running anti virus software will not help. Your computer will need a complete reinstall of the operating system. If you cannot do it take it to a LOCAL computer repair shop. Tell them what happened. In future NEVER let anyone inside your computer but you, and local repair shops.
- Yoda1725 replies to No easy fixThat is simply not true. You have no idea what you are talking about. That poster should take their PC to reputable brick and mortar shop to have the machine evaluated.
- Capt Callblock replies to No easy fixWith a Mac (as the OP had) all you need do is Force Quit the offending program, re-open said program and go back to work like nothing happened. If you want, you can go further by clearing history and cache, repairing permissions but, I've never found it necessary.
