844-258-3797

Received a call that my answering machine picked up from 000-000-0000 on my caller ID and they were calling about the Energy Rebate Protection Program available in Ontario Canada. They gave me a web address to go to www.energyprotectionplan.org and a number to call 1-844-258-3797 for further information and to join the plan. First I googled the phone number they gave me to call but there were no complaints yet about it. Then I googled "Energy Rebate Program" and found there is one for my area being pushed by the Ontario Gov't and my gas utility. However there is also a list of approved contractors that you must use or you will receive nothing from anyone, and from what i saw there name or phone number was not on any of the lists.  I did find out that the plan requires you to have a $350.00 energy audit  for which I might get a rebate of $150.00 from my gas utility. I also had to act on at least 2 of the items that the audit found needed upgrading e.g: replace windows, upgrade furnace and a/c, buy new water heater, insulate the attic etc., etc...  As they were not listed on any of the approved contractor lists  I will not visit the web site they gave me on the phone because of possible viruses or malware being downloaded to my computer.  I am always suspicious now of telemarketing phone calls that point you to a website because of the possibility of it being a scam or a phishing call to steal my identity. Please beware....  The name was at the beginning of the message and I didn't hear the first part of it... I think it was "Enerprice Protection Plan"
