This may be the only legitimate call I've received in months from a number not in my directory. The number belongs to AARP. When I called it the recorded message said that AARP had called regarding the Medicare issue recently resolved by Congress. The message directed me to the organization’s website with which I'm already familiar since I'm a member of AARP. The CID, unfortunately, didn't report the call properly (it read “toll free number” or I would have answered the call.

You might want to proceed with care.  Numbers can be faked and spoofed.  If you like what the AARP web site says, and you know it is the real site (yes, sites are faked often, and quite well), call only businesses and phone numbers given on AARP site itself, not to the number that called you with the message.  Scamming retirees is big business, and it pays to be very, very careful.

You're right that one should be careful. I think that this call was legitimate, though, due to the information provided and the fact that I wasn't directed to any phone number, only to the standard AARP Web page.

I should have noted, originally, that this number isn’t the AARP customer service number printed on the back of my AARP card. Maybe I can be organized enough to call AARP customer service on Monday to ask about this number.

The caller, Out of area ( displayed as ID on our phone ),  called us @ 10:32 A.M., 11.16.2015. after I review http:800notes.com that 3 persons reported to it that this umber been used from AARP. I r3etur4ned the call hiding my number 7 a message  talking about senior Medicare issues & asked me to call 866-820-7446 for more information, so I called it and asked  a gentleman to remove my number from 844-259-0335 list. I donated money to it, but never got involved.
