Threatens to sue me over debt past the statute of limitations.

They just left me a message as well for some stupid Debt I never heard of

left message from Cox associates claiming I am in debt to a 8 year old pay day loan.  I called back and at first she hung up on me when I wanted more info  on Cox Associates.  then she called back and explained further about the debt.  I said I know nothing about the loan. and she said fine they would send the court documents for me to appear in court.  I said fine.   I called the number 10 minutes later and was answered by a lady who said she was the mediator for Cox Associates.  I said I needed some information about Cox and the loan company to be able to to my own research.  She hung on me.   Scam all the way!!!  Watch out for these scam predators!

A David Smith left me two messages threatening to send out court papers if I do not call them back for mediation.

You never have to do research yourself.  The DC is legally obligated to do the following:

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid. 

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Same just happened to me

Message left by David with Cox and Associates attempting to contact another person. Indicates a need to contact the mediation department.

They keep calling and harassing me about a online payment of $500.02 that I have never heard of and telling me I'm getting sued and they are going to take me to jail and when I tried to get information from them about who they was the lady got mad and said ok keep playing like you don't know what I'm talking about, need less to say she didn't get to finish because I called her out on the scam plus some...

People need to get a life and quit trying to take other people's money that they work hard for...

I got a voicemail saying I'm going to be served. I don't owe any money I pay all my bills.  They didn't even have my last name right. Scam!

Didn’t get my name right either.  Trying to collect.  Just blocked number.  SCAM!!!! All the way!!!

Said someone was suing me for an 8 year old debt. Looked up the "plaintiff " and they have been out of business for years

SCAM!!! Said I am being sued for a debt I never had.  Same lady answered when I called back but used a different name too

They contacted my parents to get to me. Same motive, the debt was 6 years old, they didn't have my correct address at that time, and the company that I was supposedly in debt to wasn't even available to me in my area. They were looking to get $501 from me to stop the litigation from going to court by 3 p.m. today (funny how you always seem to call right before it goes in front of a judge). I told the woman that I needed to do a bit more research and that I would call them back.

They did the robo call for me and said that they had a case ###### and to get a hold of them.  Will, I call my atty then called them and told them NOT to call me again and forward my atty number and firms name so that they
can resolve it.  It's a total SCAM -  They call me by my maiden name that I haven't used in very, very long time  The number that called 844-473-8908

Stating sending documents to lake county to sue me and if I want to settle call 744-503-1242

Got a phone from David smith yesterday for cox associates from in take  it was automation recorded message with a threat from county clerks office number 844 8131244 I call back didn't hear from them left message. So I started to  investigate that's how I found this site. There located In Charleston  Sc.

I work for a state agency and received a call on my work phone this morning around 10:30.  It was a computer generated message from someone identifying himself as "David Smith at Cox and Associates".  Talk about a generic name!  The call was for someone named Cleveland -no Cleveland in this office- and the message gave a phone number of 844-305-2675 and a "reference file number" to call back about legal papers being served.  We get calls like this all the time for "Cleveland"; these scammers must be selling each other my work phone number as the number of Cleveland!

I got the same call from David Smith yesterday. What  ever happened with your situation? Didi you get any court papers?
