- Be Informed| 5 repliespart of the call appeared to be human the other parts was unmistakably machine. called from one number gave a separate number to return the call too. Told me they were court mediators and that I have "been formally served", I was confused so I Called my attorney who told me you can not be served via phone, text, voice mail or fax. and that court mediators do not serve such documentation. He cautioned this may be a scam as all that was left was a case number no court, county or any jurisdiction information.I was also told that a collection agency will use this as a method of scaring people.

- Mr. X| 3 repliesA voice mail message was left by a "David Smith" (scammers like to use generic names) who claimed to be a head arbitrator for "County Mediation Services". Never says exactly what county or from what state he's from. He also left a case number for me to use as a reference.

- KimWhat is this. They have my work information, an old address. When I called back and they asked for the last of my social they said they didn’t have a case with these numbers. They wouldn’t tell me what it was about
- Caller: County mediators
- Walt| 3 repliesI got the same call 3 hours ago. They make it sound official but I know damn well it takes a county official or a police officer to serve papers. They also ask that you call this number to supply additional information. Why would they need additional info when they are supposed to already know everything about you???
This stinks of a scam or a collection agency trick to me so I would not worry about it. Maybe Trump should go after the cyber crooks out there instead of chasing porn stars around his bedroom!- Caller: Unavailable

- PuzzledGot the same call which was partly robotic but had a human voice recording of my name. They said I was served. This has to be some baloney. I called back numerous times but can't get through to a human. I did use Craigslist to post some ads so it might be a clever scammer. Note.. it says "county remediators". My question is "what county?". Any business can name themselves "county anything".. county fence repair, county painting services, etc... I'm not responding further to these guys but I encourage you all to report it to your state attorney general office.

- Kyle| 1 replyLeft a message just like others have reported, I have been served they say which is something that must be done in person not over the phone. Obvious scam, hope people don't fall for this. I am going to report them to police.

- C.S| 1 replyi received a phone call from 815-268-9181 asking me to call 844-263-4255. He said his name was David Smith and he was calling in regards to obtaining a motion, gave a "case number" and said I have been officially notified. They also called my husbands phone and left the same message for me. When I called the 844-263-4255, they put me on hold for more then 10 mins, so I hung up.
- Caller: Mediation Services
- BigA replies to C.SYou do not obtain a motion. Motions are made after a case has been filed. They are heard or read by a judge and granted based on facts of law. This is nothing more than an extortion scam.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

They hack local numbers to appear legitimate, but they are nothing but scammers! The local number they spoof-called me from was 703.884.1842. They told me to call them back at 844.263.4255.

- MikeI get these calls every now and then from sorry bill collectors fishing for someone who owe's money with the same name as mine. They find your phone number and anybody elses with the same name and if social last 4 of your Social is not the same they take you off the list.
- Caller: County court mediation

- Not TheirTargetThey called and left a message for a name I did not recognize. I have had my phone number for many years. Same thing -- combination of what appears to be a voice and a robot giving a name. Not calling them back, since it wasn't even my name.
- Caller: County Mediator
- CH| 1 replyI received the same message as other are reporting. They called my brother’s cell phone and used my maiden name that I have not used in over 7 years. Said it was in reference to a “county” case and told me to calll them back. I knew immediately that it is a scam because I am a paralegal and know that I cannot be “officially served notice” by voice mail! Nice try.

- bw| 2 repliesmy husband received a message also from David Smith, with a case number, referring to my maiden name. I called earlier today was placed on hold for over 10 min and hung up, tried later in the day and was asked to leave a message which I did not. My last attempt a "Ted Davis" answered stating I have a delinquent loan from 2013 but then changed it and said it was from 2015. He had my last 4 digits of my ss#, new address and my place of employment. States his company Global Mediation out of VA is hired by counties to mediate. He stated I could pay $510 today and avoid further court proceedings. The most questions I asked the more frustrated he became and eventually said he could not keep repeating himself. I ended the call.

- BigA replies to bw"Counties" do not get involved in debt collection. "Mediators" do not call you to collect debts, you and the other party go to them, and they try to help you come to a mutual agreement. What was stated certainly did not fit that definition. Read my other post as well.
- LJSame message as above. I called back because I like to mess with them. After going over some extremely outdated verification information (im talking 10 years plus) and the guy that answered telling me the "charges" against me I asked if I was speaking with a collections agency the gentleman avoided the questions continuing with come memorized speech about paying the debt directly to them to prevent further action. I then asked you are a "litigation" firm that accepts payments directly from consumers for outstanding debt? Again the question avoided as if I didn't ask. Last, I asked what Is the address for your business he promptly disconnected the call. Needless to say that's all I needed to determine their legitimacy. I called back and asked ( a lady this time) what is the physical address for your business and your license number she replied " we dont give that out, we are not attorneys"
- AHSame messages as the others. The name of the person they were attempting was a mash-up of several of our names, including my daughter's.

- JudyLeft a message stating I had been served! Served what and where I'm not sure but gave me a case# & phone# 844-263-4255 to call back. I won't call especially after reading the comments below.... scamming for something. Also they blocked their phone number and name of business so the only number I have is the above one in which I was told to call.
