    Called my house at 6:30 in the morning looking for my brother!  Said there was fraudulent bank activity and someone was passing bad checks in his name.  The phone numbers didn't match and when I tried to get more information they told me to stop being nosy and prying into my brothers business (they called me!)  After I got ahold of my brother it wasn't even his bank account number!

    These people called me staring I owed for a payday loan. First a Steve hail called and said if I didn't set up arrangements I would be served papers. I set up arrangement because I was scarred and then researched the number and found it had many complaints against it I cancelled my debit card immediately. No a lady by the name of Mrs. Walsh is calling my stating that if I don't comply with the original  payment agreement  I would have to appear in court on this date in two weeks  and if I don't appear in court there will be a bench warrant  out for my arrest no failing  to appear. Anyone please are they allowed to do this and is it a scam???

    It is a scam.  These people have no legal grounds to do anything.  It's not against the law to be in debt, even if the debt is legitimate.

    I keep getting the same phone call.  They say I owe a pay day loan lol.  Said it went into my bank account back in 2010 but my account was closed back in 2009.  Local law enforcement said it was a scam as  well as the actual lender.  Police have made a report and are investigating as we speak.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you

    .•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    This is a scam. I had my attorney listen to the call. They do have some of my personal info - old address, last four of my SSN, DOB - so I thought they might be real.  My lawyer said a real process server would just show up. If someone filed a complaint I would be notified in writing through certified mail.  My attorney told me to contact the Attorney General and not to return or answer these calls.

    Sorry to say that you have probably been had.
    These scumbags prey on uninformed people using scare tactics, and they work by catching people off guard.  Report this criminal activity Immediately to your bank and to the police. There's probably not much they can do about this, but you need to have a report so they can at least try. This has been going on for a few years now, in different disguises, but the same scam.
      PLEASE people!  N E V E R (!!) give out your personal information, and ESPECIALLY not your banking information or SS# over the phone to someone you do not know, who calls you!! They could be anyone, and most likely are someone OTHER than whom they say they are. They are PROBABLY a criminal looking to bilk you out of your $$!
    Good luck and I hope you can still have a good holiday season.

    This is a real company, but obviously they have a business that is centered around unpaid pay day loans. I work for a payday loan company and I'm sure you can be sued for unpaid loans. This seems legitimate but people get scammed by so many other companies you never know nowadays. If you
