Received the same two text messages as others have reported here.  Called the number and it is a North American-sounding voice stating "Welcome to Canadian Tire, please enter your credit card number."  Hung up right there.

DO NOT REPLY TO THE TEXT MESSAGE... I called the good people at Canadian Tire Mastercard and it is indeed a scam... as with all other credit cards and banks. they will NEVER contact you for additional information about your account via text or email...Best thing you can do is call them and block the number that sent the text

I called the first number. It sounded legit. They asked for my credit card number and said if I didn't feel comfortable call the number on the back of the card

I received this exact same text message, with the last 4 digits of my MasterCard number and the full name on my credit card. If it is in fact Canadian Tire bank, texting like this is a very alarming way to go about communicating with customers. It feels like a phishing scam to get people to give their credit card numbers over the phone.

So, in my case CTFS can confirm a message was sent that corelates to the same time I received the text message (from 282768) asking me to call this phone number but unfortunately they have no way to readily confirm in customer services if it is "Collections" department call number as they only see their in-system extensions. I had legit missed the min payment date, paid it immediately, but since it fell on a Friday, the payment was delayed past the date 'agreed' to make up and so this was generated in response to their system not recognising second chance payment being made in time. So it makes sense that the message is legit but the customer services agent even agreed that without a method to confirm, it is best to just call the number on the back of the card as they can route you wherever you need anyway. The suggestion I made, which they agreed made sense and will pass up and others should request as well, is to publish on all their sites the numbers that they expect customers to call them back on so we can actually have a method to confirm legit call backs.

You expect us to believe that the CSR doesn't know the company phone numbers?  Can't connect you to their "collections department"?  Doesn't know that you didn't pay your bill?  By the way, are you also saying that there is no possible way that this phone number could be spoofed?  That every call from it would have to be 100% legit?  Yeah, you are one of the scammers for sure.

This is a scam. It read the same in a text for me. It stated that I was late with my payment, so I checked my online banking and I was not. Canadian Tire has a 1-800 number not a 1-844. I would block the number and always when it comes to paying bills or owing, always check your online banking first and if it checks out and you paid it, delete the text or email as it's a scam. Another thing is if you are unsure if it could be legitimate, always go to your bank to find out. Don't chance it! Have a good day!
