    Terri from Rogers, AR
Was checking my email when an audio recording announced that I need to contact my service provider at 844-326-5028 then press "1" because I had a malicious virus on my computer and it could steal valuable information. Instead, I called my provider Cox Communications with the number I have from them on my cable/ internet bill.  I was then told by my provider, that it could very well be a dangerous virus, and the hackers would probably freeze my computer if I do not pay them a fee to fix.  The Cox service rep told me they can try to get hundreds of dollars from you.  So I asked for their technical support.  Cox tech support offered me a virus protection plan package, or a one time fee to fix the virus if I even had one.  I asked that the fee be waived since I have been a valued customer for 22 years.  No ma'am, but if I would like, they would charge me a one time fee of $99.00 to check it out.  Scam and scammed again!  I will be leaving Cox Communication asap!  They are just as bad as the first scammers!!!

I also got the same message on my computer - a window taken over by "techsupport.xfinity.com" or something like that.  It said I had malware or a virus and that I needed to call this 844 number.  It also provided a case number (968545).  I immediately became suspicious, and googled the number.  It is not listed in any online directory.  So then I called the 800 number I always use for Comcast, and their Internet Security team told me this is a scam.  And since the previous commenter on this page has Cox Communication, why would a legitimate company use the same 800 number for technical support for two unrelated Internet providers?  Total scam.

    What the heck
I just got the pop up message and I was stupid enough to call the number.  While conversing with the guy I decided to google this.  So I hung up on him and he called back.  I didn't pick up.  My provider is Time Warner.

A message popped up on my computer and stated they were AT&T and stated they ran a scan and my computer was infected with malware.  They gave me a case # and said I should call this number to rectify the situation.  I think when you call they capture all your personal information.

Actually, totally different experience for me. I got a text on my cell simply saying the name of one of my pre-paid credit cards and then a TinyURL.

This link led me to yopami.org, a direct mirror of the card's true login site; a poor way to try and steal my info. Since it's AmEx I'll be passing this on.

    BEWARE. Scam in all fashions.
