Koobface worm scam

A windows prompt popped onto my screen requesting me to call the number through my service provider to contact them of a potential virus.

A warning appeared on my computer screen telling me to call the number for help with the virus. I called my Internet server, they said it's a scam.

They said it was TIME WARNER and that I had malicious website 71.65.244.203 trying to get in to my personal computer and to call them at 844-326-7609   if I did not call they would suspend my account        I did not call and saw this site on my computer     I see from your site it is a scam

My pop up message came from Verizon (NOT)
844-326-7609 and said I also had a virus and to call 844-326-7609. Said not to turn off my computer as I could loose all my data. BS. Turned it off and was fine..just got another one today. Xed it off.

I am new to Internet scams and I took it seriously at first, but felt something was fishy. I called and they did not sound like they knew what was going on. Does anyone know what might happen because I called them?

Nothing if you called them, but under no circumstances follow their instructions on what to do to your computer. And never let anyone remote connect to it.  This is a scam. They want you to download a program that lets them get onto your computer. They will then lock you out of it and try to get you to pay them to let you back in.  There are tons of videos on youtube showing what they do.
