- Giant BabySome woman claiming to be a lawyer, trying to collect a debt from me for a finance company that I never heard of . Looks to be a SCAM!
- Caller: Fake lawyer
- Call type: Debt collector
- John S| 2 repliesI received a call from this number today claiming they are an attorney trying to collect from a 'law firm' named Ross, Childs (Charles?), something Associates.
First of all, if you are reading this, then you did the right thing to Google the number first.
Second, since you are reading this, it will tell you that this phone number is most likely not associated with any legitimate attorney since they do not even have a website, as you already know. What legitimate attorney do you know does not have a website or a public record of their contact information?
Third, I did some researching and found this public comment from Dorothy Bunce, an attorney in Nevada: "Lawyers seldom make collection calls, so presumably you spoke with a debt collector impersonating a lawyer & using a fictitious name. If you obtained reliable contact information, such as address where to send the money, you may want to call the state bar association or your local police to report this, as impersonating a lawyer is often a criminal offense. A consumer attorney specializing in Fair Debt Collection Practices law may be able to file suit and obtain damages for you as well. "
Fourth, area code 844 is a toll free number. This means they are probably calling from outside of your state or country. Always remember this: for an attorney to bring suit against you, they have to be licensed to practice in your state. So for example, a lawyer in NY cannot sue you directly if you live in CA. They have to get a lawyer in CA to do that, and file it in the county court where you reside, not anywhere else.
I hope this helps.- Call type: Debt collector
- CThe live (not robo) message is as follows. "My name is Jen I'm calling from the office of Rothschild Reynolds and Associates. I need to speak with you or your representative immediately. My firm is looking to finalize a case against you, but there are some last minute options available. Do return my call, I do recommend it, if you choose not to I wish you the best of luck in this case."
I googled that name and the closest I could find was Reynolds & Associates. They are located in Las Vegas, NV and the phone number doesn't match the one on the message. Reynolds & Associates number is (702) 445-7000.
Hope this helps!- Caller: Rothschild, Reynolds & Assoc.

- Jess WGot a message from a Tiffany Brown saying I needed to return her call reguarding an extremely important civil action matter in my county court house (she stated the name of the county). I do have to say she sounded convincing but I knew I did nothing wrong. So then I started googling the information. I’m very happy I found this site, the comments about the number confirmed my thoughts.

- BigA replies to Sue BishopWhenever someone tells you that they are a "lawyer" or that they work for a lawyer or law firm, the first question you should ask is what state(s) they are registered in and their BAR number for that/those state(s). Then go to that state and check them out, contact them directly using the information in the state registration, as these crooks have been known to research real law firm names and attorney names and impersonate them.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: https://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general - Melissa in NJJust got 2 of these calls within a matter minutes apart. Both claiming they worked for Rothschild's, Reynolds & Associates. Said the suit was against my ex-husband (how my number is attached to him, I have no idea as we have been divorced a few years) and the suit is in Monroe County Pa (he lives in Pa but I do not know where). The first call came from Texas 361-237-3512 and the second from Minnesota 507-573-4227. I asked exactly who she worked for and also the case # which she gave me both...case # 4686136I and then asked where she was located and she said New York. When I asked her why her number came up Minnesota she explained they have offices all over the country. Then all of a sudden the phone started cutting in and out and I could not hear her anymore. Shocking, right! I'm glad I found this site and glad I am not the only one it's happened to. Why do people have a to be so scummy! :-(

- MichelleAlso have this number harassing me over a debt my ex husband owes. I've talked to them personally three times and explained that I have not seen him in over 20 years, he owes me child support still and I think it's hilarious. Apparently this firm isn't too bright, as they keep calling me.... It's getting to the point I'm thinking of seeing if I can't do something legally to stop the harassment.

- ShelleyMonths ago, I received a call from a blocked number. A woman said she was about to head out to my property to serve me paperwork, but wanted to make sure I was home. (As if they really give you a heads up) I asked her what state she was in and she said Georgia. I haven’t lived in Georgia in years, and I told her that.
She gives me a number to call and it’s this 844 number. So, the person on the phone I ask them what this regarding and they say it’s a Sears card I knew I never had. She reads off the information from my “file” they have my current number, a job I haven’t worked at since early 2006, an address I haven’t lived at since 2013, but said the account was opened in 2010 and I paid it satisfactory for 2 years then stopped.
After that, a guy continuously called me to set up payment arrangements. I repeatedly asked for validation of the debt which he failed to provide. Mind you this was months ago. He left me a message saying since I refused to comply, that there would be a judgment against me soon.
I ignored him and he just started calling again. 🙄- Caller: Rothschild, Blah Blah.

- KPI just spoke with Jennifer from Rothschild, Reynolds and Associates and asked for a local number. She transferred me to her supposed supervisor and I was told they don't have a local number. When I said that if they are an attorney's office they should have a local number I was told they only have personal numbers. I then asked for an address and was told that they can't give out that information so I asked what city and state they are in and was told western New York. I asked what city and was told that is confidential information. Everything about this company sends up red flags. I never received a letter from them and they can't tell me what the debt is for, just that I owe over $5000 to them. I was threatened yesterday by a woman there saying they are going to file with the county, not specifying what county, and that they are going to garnish my wages and that they will use my car as an asset. If they truly could look at my assets they would see that I don't have any and that my car is a lease with my dad's name on it, so it's not an asset. DO NOT SEND MONEY TO THESE PEOPLE!!! Report them immediately! they have no number to look up and no website, not even a listing in New York.

- Derek| 2 repliesSo, I see a lot of people saying this Rothschild, Reynolds, and Associates is a scam, but that doesn't seem to be 100% true. It seems they ARE actually collection agents (obviously confirm that by tracing any debt they claim you own from the actual owner on your credit report), in my case, for something that I owe. While I can't say 100% they claimed to be attorneys because my memory isn't great, I definitely think they are breaking collections law because:
1. They either said outright or gave me the impression they were with a law firm (possibly this is on me, but others are also saying they claim this, so I'm leaning towards that being the case)
2. They stated that if I didn't make an arrangement that a suit would be filed, I'd be subpoenaed to make a plea in court.
I am definitely no lawyer, but I found it odd that he said I'd be making a plea, which I thought was a criminal court thing, not for lawsuits between two private parties.
Here is what I did, because I believed this to be a scam and I wanted to do something about it - the world sucks enough without people preying on others:
1. Called the number listed on my credit report for the creditor
2. They told me it was being handled by another group, P&B Capital. The man that called me from "Rothschild, Reynolds, and Associates" did mention their parent company is P&B Capital before I even knew this portion. She gave me a number to call at P&B Capital.
3. I called the number given to me by P&B Capital and a man answered (no greeting, just "how may I help you", which I did think was odd, but this number was given to me by the creditor that appears on my credit report). He told me he'd transfer me to the person in charge of my account
4. He transferred me to (drumroll) Rothschild, Reynolds, and Associates. It went to voicemail, but I left one.
5. When the same guy that called me previously called me back (about 5 minutes after I left the message) he said he'd been informed by his supervisor that I called. I, following advice in this thread asked him for their BAR number.
That is when he started telling the truth and dropped the bully tactics. He said they are not a law firm, and he never said that (I'm not sure I believe him, but I cannot be sure - either way I got the distinct impression they were a law firm, as did many others, so again I think they did). He said they are just a collection agency trying to get payment. I asked about how he said I'd be served shortly if I didn't pay, and he said that all they do is determine if I'm going to pay, and then make a recommendation to the debt owner. If I refuse to pay, they will send it back to the creditor (after a few times confirming because I've told them to jog on a few times before this) and recommend legal action. He said that is 100% all they do, and if I got the impression he was a) with a law firm or b) was going to file a lawsuit that it was my own misundestanding.
He proceeded to offer me several payment options, which I told him I'd think about and get back to him.
I'm not saying trust people calling from this firm, I just wanted to share my experience after investigating it a little more. My impression here is they are legitimate collectors, but they are using shady and illegal practices for sure.- Caller: Joseph Shumway
- Call type: Debt collector
- BigA replies to DerekIf they are using "shady and illegal practices" then they are not "legitimate" debt collectors. I see you read part of my post but ignored the part where they are required to prove that you owe the debt and that they have the legal right to collect it. Why? By the way P & B Capital and this Rothschild are probably the same criminal enterprise.
No one, and I do mean no one, should ever trust a debt collector that cannot follow a simple, plain language law that states what they can do and what they cannot do. - BigAIt appears that this group is using a different name.
If you would not only like to make the calls stop permanently, but would also like to know which agencies to report them to, as well as to learn how to make them pay you for the harassment, then read my post here and follow the directions: https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-802-321-2515#p1305173237193964348 - STJThey called me from 865-321-8718 on my cell and at work.
