Call after hours. The voice message states the name of the firm clearly.
I am in Texas and everything you stated was identical to what they threatened me with.
Except I don't have credit with the creditor they stated they were collecting on.

Got a second call from these dirtbags "papers on his desk to be filed against me and my ss#" if I don't call in 24- 48 hours. I sure would like to see these clowns caught.

I too got the same kind of call, threatened me and said he was filing court papers this afternoon.  he said it was from an account with Mervyns, I TOLD HIM WELL THAT CANT BE RIGHT THEY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS 10 YEARS AGO!!!  He got really rude and hug up on me.  I think this is a scam to get peoples credit card numbers!

yes I have their number 844-341-9473 is the number they called me from, but the voice mail number left for me to call was 844-792-1901  ext 308.  i called the second one with no luck but then I called the first number back and I got through to someone.  I too would love to take legal action.  After many threats and phone calls from them, I just sent my attorney an email.  Please let me know if anything becomes of this. eproosow@yahoo.com

A few months back I got a call from them saying I owed them $700 for a lowes credit card and demanded I pay it right then. I told them I haven't had a lowes card in years and the account was closed with zero balance. They said either I pay it or they're sending the sheriff to arrest me. I told them I'll be waiting. Then they put me on with their "paralegal" who said they will send me copies of the lowes bill. I check my email and saw the worst attempt at a fake letterhead. A 4 year old could've made a better one. They called me back the next day demanding payment again. I told them I was still waiting for the sheriff to come get me. They hung up on me. Called me again a few more times but I never answered. Last month they called my mom, who lives in a different state than me, asking for me and told her they had court papers to serve me for check fraud. I called them back and this time they said I owe money to a payday loan. I've never had a payday loan. I said you must have run out of numbers to call and scam because you've already tried this on me except it was a lowes card last time. Then she says they have no previous record of ever calling me for any account and told me they were gonna send me an email and a "hard copy" in the mail. Called me back the next day demanding payment or they were gonna have me arrested at my job. I told them to make sure they sent a different sheriff this time because the last one is still lost. Haven't heard back from them anymore

The fact that they sent an alleged debt by email tells me it is a scam.
