Neighbor just called me and told me they called her asking about me LOL.    Caller (Heather) said she was associated with documentation verification services and gave her some reference number.  Neighbor pretty much just blew them off.  BTW, the 844 number was a callback number, she thinks the number on the caller ID was 708-321-2124

Idk if this is a real debt collector or a scam I would really like to know. Some lady name Tina said I owed about $2,000 from year 2009? And said if we don't come to a agreement they were going to take me to court. They contacted me thru calling my brother. How would they get his number? Instead of calling me direct.

This sounds like you are being called by a phony debt scammer.  A phone, an e-mail or a FAX is NOT a legal notification of a debt.
It is not that hard for debt scammers to get a phone number of family members or your workplace, and they make those calls to intimidate and harass you.  You may be threatened with "being served papers" and told that the Police are on the way to arrest you.
Here is a link to some info that should help you.

I answered a call from 631-318-3420.  (I believe in the past this number has come up for "free vacations" when I have answered.  Although no longer physically located in the 631 area code, my cell is still 631 and I know this is one of the games they play.)  Anyway, I answered this time but a live person actually answered.  The woman asked if I would be home to receive documents I need to sign for.  I said "Yes" and asked what it was about.  She stated that she was from "Document Service Verification" as a third party and it involved a "pending civil matter."  When I asked more, she said she only knew it was from the county (which she got correct) I live in.  If anything was going to change in the day and I would not be home, she gave me the 844 # to call back and a reference number.  NO IDEA WHAT THIS IS ABOUT.  I will update if anybody knocks on my door!

I rec'd a call from 715-214-2404.  They called 3/1/17 I missed the call and tried to call back but "call could not be completed due to heavy call volume."  They called again 3/9/17, I answered but no one on the other end.  They just called a third time and a girl named Jessica asked me the same as above but was calling for my ex-bf and said I was listed as another contact number.  She gave me the same 844 number to pass on to my ex along with a document number.  He knows of nothing, there is no pending civil matter on our state's court records, I tried calling the 844 number and they answer by saying "legal department ______ speaking."  I hung up and didn't go any further with the call.

Contacted me from a local number (319 area code) looking for my sister. They said I was listed as a contact number. Needed her to call back regarding scheduling delivery for documents for a potential legal matter in the county she lives in. Could be a scam? Might not?  I'll let her decide to call back or not but sounds like it's a pattern....

844-402-1852 got a called from this number wanting someone to call back indicating a legal documents is waiting for be sent out to my dad. I called from my cell phone and the guy tried to speak all in legal terms as if I don't already know they are scammers. He indicated my number was listed as a reference number but it wasn't i just decided to use my cell phone to call. They had originally called to land line. Wanting me to verify my dad ssn i said no, you should already have that if that is the case. He indicated my dad owes Cresent Jewelry, which i know is a lie. My dad doesn't own any credit card or line of credit through anyone. Don't bother calling them back. This is a scammer.

Got a call from Kaitlyn of Document Service Verification stating we had missed 2 attempts for delivery and tomorrow was last attempt before legal proceedings started. She was looking for my wife and was calling for IAO out of Washington County. I was given a number to call (844-402-1853) and a reference number . Kaitlyn gave her stage name but said she didn't have a call back number. My landline captured 918-977-3801 out of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They are illegal phishing for info. I made a local police report and called the Oklahoma Attorney General to protect us and document the lowlifes. This call happened at 1417 hours March 16, 2017. Kaitlyn's response was slowed when I alerted her to my actions off her actions. Attorney General called and said DO NOT answer any numbers you don't recognize because it is fertilizer for scam callers.

They called me as well. The fact that I have no credit card debt or outstanding warrants or anything of that nature made me a highly doubtful this was a legitimate call in anyway. After googling the number I saw that many people have had the same scenario. It's obviously a scam.

I am a senior citizen - My son said that the company rep who called him called from a number in Georgetown TX - asking him if he is authorized to receive documents that should be mailed to me.  I called the number they left with him - 844-402-1853 and got a lady who claimed to be with Lincoln Advisors who are trying to collect a debt from 2010 - I have no debts to my knowledge and nothing on my credit history to indicate I owe money to anyone.  I was told that there was a county processing agency - this lady had my son's number, my social security number and made claims that my own bank had held the account to which I owe money - but she couldn't tell me who the supposed original debt holder was. There were scare tactics used and I am very suspicious of their calling my son.  How did they get that info?  I will follow through with all agencies they mentioned to ascertain the legitimacy - I suspect this is some sort of phishing scam.  I can find no reference to a company named Lincoln Advisors associated with 844-402-1853 or originating in Georgetown TX but I noticed that the number 844-402-1853 has been marked "unsafe" 43 times by others who recently  reviewed this phone number.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RE: THE LINCOLN GROUP
The BBB opened an investigation on this firm due to the type of complaints and the amount of inquiries we have received. According to BBB files, complainants claim that they were contacted by this business, who was allegedly claiming to be a law firm, in regards to old debts that had already been paid off. Multiple consumers stated that the company called their family members, friends and neighbors to attempt to make contact and would threaten them with legal action when they refused to pay. We have not been able to verify that the company is, in fact, a law firm or that they hold a license with the City of Los Angeles. The BBB began to receive mail return in October 2014, which is when we called the company to retrieve a valid address. The name given by the person who answered the phone was Michael Wilson. He insisted that they were still located at the address on 5th St, but he provided us an email address in which we could send any contact letters or inquiries. The BBB still did not receive responses to our requests for information or responses to the complaints we have on file. Upon further search of the company's physical address, we found that they do not reside at their reported address any longer. A man who identified himself as the property manager at 633 W. 5th St in Los Angeles, where the company leased office space, said the firm left unexpectedly about four months ago (approximately October 2014). As of today, the company's phone number has been disconnected.

There is no need for you to go to the trouble of figuring out if you owe money.  The law is very clear on that subject.  Take the time to read the following:

Criminals masquerading as debt collectors attempt to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged (they use the bad check or hot check claim a lot) and go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished without actually being sued or going to court, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  They will use the words “Mediator”, “Arbitrator”, or “Law Office” to make you believe that they are something other than a debt collector want-a-be and that they don’t have to follow Federal and State collection laws.  They do have to follow those laws, but they won’t.  They mention that they have received a Fax document, to create the sense of urgency.  They also tell you that if you fail to call them back you are "waiving your right to council", which is pretty much nothing but hogwash.  They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.

If you feel you SSN has been compromised, in addition to putting a fraud alert at the 3 credit bureaus, you may want to notify the IRS.  Here is the link, fill out the proper form (probably 14039). Also file a report at the FTC Identity Theft web site as well as learn what else you need to do:

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

My father received a call from this entity.
They described a "Civil Complaint", and that if I don't contact them I could be facing a court hearing! I suspect it is a non-legal debt collector. All the companies, I owe money to, have either my mailing address or my cell number,
And so they would contact me directly,
instead of trying to reach me through my father.
I suspect fraud and a Scam!
I didn't give them any information!

Just got a call 209-332-3001 and the woman was trying to locate my sister as they were trying to deliver some important legal documents to her. I was given a phone number (844-402-1853) and a case number for my sister to call back. I'm not sure if I think it's a scam yet. There was no mention of this being an attempt to collect a debt and the woman did not ask who I was, plus she used my sister's legal first name, that she never goes by publicly. I do intend to pass along the info to my sister and it's her choice to call them back. I'll try to update here if anything happens.

It is a scam.  They will not call you ahead of time.  They will show up, give you the documents and be on their way.  This is a common tactic used by debt collectors who do not follow the rules.  A phone call is never a valid or legal notification of debt that is owed.  She will need to ask for validation of the alleged debt in writing through USPS mail.
