Voicemail claiming to be from my cable service advising me my modem is not sufficient to connect with their increased wifi speed.  Requested I call back to arrange to “swap out” for updated modem.  Alvin said he was calling from Staten Island NY.  I was getting ready to call back and decided to first call customer service for my provider.  They checked and said there’s nothing wrong with my modem and when she checked the number against the numbers being used by the company out of NY, surprise, there was no such number on record.   This call sounded very legitimate.  Assume it was phishing for information to scam me.  Since I had recently made some changes in my cable services, they almost got me.  Relieved I took 30 seconds to think about it before calling.

I looked this number up because I got a voicemail saying the same thing you described in your post and then figured I'd call the customer service number for spectrum, not the number left on my voicemail. Turns out, it is a legit thing for me. Spectrum is mailing me a new modem today.  I did NOT return the call to the phone number that called me. I called the spectrum number that shows up on my bill. I wonder how our experiences were so different. People are sick huh?  They probably scammed it somehow where the same number is showing up on our phones, some are scams, some are legit. Everyone should be careful though. Just because my case was legit, and yours wasn't, doesn't mean it's a 50/50. I recommend calling your company directly if you receive a call from this number, just as L and I did.
