East Indian accent, claims they are from the CRA - Canadian Revenue Agency, but if you ask questions, they swear at you, and threaten that you will go to jail.  Not typical CRA Haha.  And I don't think calls from this number offer French Language Services - Only "East Indian".

844-506-2829 - Rec'd 2 calls on my wife's on my wife's pay-as-you-go phone that is hardly ever used, and she hasn't ever given her number out to anyone.  Called the number back, and got a person with a thick accent.  They answered simply CRA - I asked - what is "CRA" he said Canada Revenue Agency. I said how do I know this is legitimate. He said well if you want to ignore this call you can just go to jail.  (Heard lots of voices - like a call very noisy, unprofessional, call centre)  I said this doesn't sound like a legitimate call centre - he swore at me, using almost every obscene name in the book, and hung up on me.  Called back 3 more times, (caller-ID Blocked), and  seemed to get the same person the next 2 times, same result - 3rd time different person,but similar result.  Don't know how they can't be tracked - when they are using "Canada Revenue Agency" so blatantly.

Ottawa, Ontario, June 10, 2015...  "The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is noting an increase in telephone scams where the caller claims to be from the CRA but is not, and is asking Canadians to beware—these calls are fraudulent and could result in identity and financial theft."   They say ... "For information on scams or to report deceptive telemarketing contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca or toll free at 1-888-495-8501.If you believe you may be the victim of fraud or have given personal or financial information unwittingly, contact your local police service."

Called the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre @ 1-888-495-8501, but of course they are only MON-FRI.  Called OPP they said they only get involved if you are already a victim of an actual Fraud.  They said to report to CRA or CA-FC, and that no, they aren't open on weekends, so I will have to call them Monday.  Thinking if I could call this number back, and get someone 4 times in  a row - the CRA, or some Fraud investigation agency should be able to.

The crooks are in a foreign country that ignores the laws of other countries and takes bribes to look the other way.  FYI, you cannot block your caller id when calling a toll free number back. They are paying for the call and are entitled to the information, which is sent by ANI.

call from 844 506-2829: the caller left a voicemail : call back ASAP otherwise you will have to seek legal council; thank you all, for posting your comments regarding this number; my caller ID says it is a call from USA; the caller left a message to say he was from CRA; why would CRA call on a saturday morning from the USA???

844 is a toll-free area code.
The scammer still gets your number, because the TSP (Telephone Service Provider) sends your telephone number via Automatic Number Identification (ANI) data to the caller.

SCAM ALERT!!!
I just received a voicemail from the number 844 506-2829 moments ago.  I actually called the number back and ended up speaking with the Indian man on the phone.  His accent was so thick I couldn't understand and kept asking him to speak slower (which he didn't and he kept shouting and speaking very fast).  He said I am being served and I said I have filed my taxes every year and there should be no issues.  He asked me how I file my taxes and so I didn't reply. Instead I asked the man if he's from the CRA why hasn't he asked me any personal information about myself, and also that he hasn't provided any info about himself too.
Then he said finally "fine. have the police deal with you then."  Then he hung up on me.

called back over voip line which does block numbers if you chose. They asked for my name I said, no, I asked them what they wanted, and he hung up. I called back a half dozen times and then this chickie said "go [***] your mother".

These people called a cellular number issued to a member of the Department of National Defence and identified themselves as CRA.  This call has been reported to the federal agency responsible for communications security.
