- blah blah| 1 replyCalled and left message to my fiance. Message was "We have important documents at clerk's office that are going through today unless you contact us. Call me back at 844-506-7261 x158562".
This sounded like a scam, b/c a) ambiguity of who they were (a real gov't clerk's office would announce what city, state, municipality, etc they are for), b) it had a sense of urgency ("call us back today or bad stuff will happen").
So, I call them back on my phone. Lady answers phone. I ask her what business this is. She says it's a litigation firm. So, I ask her to tell me the name of the business, b/c that's what I asked, not what business they were in. She tells me that I asked her "what business they were in". So, I got upset and told her to tell me the name of the business, since she was avoiding my question. She said "we work for several companies. Which are you calling about?" I told her to give me the name of all of the companies they work for, b/c I'm going to document it all. She told me she wasn't going to do that, and told me she was going to connect me to someone else to deal with me... put me on hold.
Basically.. what I glean from all of this is they are one of the many fly-by-night scam companies that call you up and make false legal threats against you to try to coerce you into paying money right now over the phone to make some fake charges go away.
eg: "we have paperwork that will be filed today against you if you don't get back with us. Ok, you got back to use.. well, the paperwork can make your life miserable with legal issues for years to come and cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars.. OR, we're willing to write this off for a mere $5000 right now."
Scam.
They're all scams.
They don't tell you who they are or give you an address or any other identifying info to pin-point the name of their business to verify it's legitimacy.
They use vaugness to make you wonder if maybe there is something that you don't know about, but don't give you full information about anything .. no case numbers, no informaiton over the phone.. that you could use to verify the validity of their claims.
They use threats and pressure of time to try to get you to act... "you need to act now or we'll drop the hammer on you!" Scams always do this. Real legal issues will inform you early of situations, have someone serve you with papers, have someone give you the name of the legal company you're working with to verify who they are, etc. Someone calling you out of the blue saying they have a legal situation against you that will start today unless you take action .. is fishing for money.- Caller: They Wouldn't Say

- BigAOne of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money. They often call people that have never even been associated with you because they get erroneous information off of the internet.
They mention that they have received a Fax document, to create the sense of urgency and tell you that they are a “process server”. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (with a made up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer). They threaten to serve you at home or at work. They tell you that if they serve you at work they need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work. They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID. None of which is true. Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them. Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else. They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”. Court documents are time sensitive and have to be served within a certain amount of time. Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there is actually a lawsuit that has been filed against you.
