The same Norman Wells/Linda Lawson scam just using a new number

"Norman Wells": Documents delivered to my residence. Call office back at 844-598-6654." Same scam, different number.

Got a call from this number.  It left a message that said, "Please hang up".  Googled it and I got 2 other places with this number.  Womack House Publishing and Social Saturday with Soul Exchange!! 70810 - HAR.com.  All of it a waste of my time.  Thank you for everyone's input.  It is very useful.  I am using Spokeo call block.  I was hesitant at first to pay for it but once the number calls me and I put it on block I never hear from that number again.  Before they would just keep on calling again and again.  Good luck everyone.

Got a call from a lady claiming to be from a company called cfs and associates, researched the number they called directly from, no information. This 844 # pulls up a publishing company.

My mom and I first started receiving voicemails from Norman Wells.  I called the number back (twice), once I got a guy and I hung up.  I then got a Ms. Rivers and got the whole story of owing on a debt and we can settle out of court, etc.  The first red flag to me was I would receive no paperwork until my initial payment was made.   Ms Rivers kept calling and when I called back (844-598-6654) it was answered by a Christina and she said that this was her cell phone number (mind you it is a toll free number).  My mom called that same number and a message came on saying to call this 417-228-9227 number.  Just a minute ago I received a call again from 417-228-9227 and is a Barbara Simpson and was told to call back immediately to 844-598-6654 ext 1003.  If she doesn't hear from me today by 1pm est time, then she will fwd this back to the original creditor in which they will "be happy to serve me at my house or place of employment and attach and verify wage garnishment."

Yes, this is a debt collection/process server extortion scam:

One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  They often call people that have never even been associated with you because they get erroneous information off of the internet.

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work they need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and have to be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there is actually a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid. 

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Scammer again!!! Hate these people.  Urgent and forceful call. Go away and quit bugging ANYONE!

This number did not call me but called my best friend.  I don't know how they got her number. They called today March 21 2018 at 3:03 PM.   The caller said his name was Normal Wells and that they sent documents to me from a client which I ignored. Caller did not say what company they represented. Message was extremely threatening and intimidating.  I informed my friend I had never heard of this person and it was some kind of scam.  However, my friend was extremely angered at me for Norman Wells having her phone number.  I tried to explain to her that I have no control over what these scam callers do and to just ignore it and/or call the police if she ever gets a call that threatening again.  Most likely some kind of scam call but frightening to think these scam callers are calling my friends and family.  I have no idea how the scammers get their numbers. Makes me feel very vulnerable.

I received the call on my own phone number at 4:04 PM today. One hour after he had called my friend on her home phone.  I have no idea how they got my friend's number.  Left same message "This is Normal Wells placing a final call today in regards to a claim issued  by one of our clients who stated they sent documents to your house to which you failed to respond". Please have your representative call to discuss this urgent matter immediately.
Interesting how this is a final call because I never got a previous call from the aforementioned Norman Wells.

Since this is the 21st Century and no one has privacy anymore (in addition to posting your whole life on social media), it was certainly not hard to get that phone number.  I would suggest you read the other posts.

Got a call from 844-598-6654 today. Said something about discussing a  legal  matter.  I just hung up. From what i read it is a scam people just trying to get  money

I get repeated calls asking for Michael Berry and leaving threatening messages. Most recent was a male voice using the name Norman Wells, saying documents were sent (to where?) and then a threat. I’ve called back in the past. I was told that since I am not and do not know a Michael Berry, they would stop calling. They called again today and, stupid me called back. Female voice - no name, no company name, told they would stop calling and abruptly hung up.
Don’t talk to them. It’s a waste of time. SCAM!

These same [***] scammers not only called me and got laughed at and told I would never fall for or be pressured by a scam artist as their establishment.  They got pissed and started using profanity with me it just made me laugh harder.  Total scam I owe no one any money under any name so yeah these guys suck at their job.

My voice to text messages are grand... placing final call (for the 100th time) , documents sent to your home and failed to respond and call a representative immediately.  All sound familiar?  DON'T FALL FOR THE SCAM

Then they called my ex husband who I have been divorced (still friends) since 2001.  They stated I used him as a reference.  Again laughable.  When I spoke to my ex I asked him when have I ever used you as a reference?  Basically they skip traced me using one of those find info sites.  Guess what I have a new last name and you can't find me online.  However, you can find my old married information.  I am smarter than the scammers on the other line.  They call about once every 2 weeks, they have been blocked and turned in.  I mean if you are going to try your scam on me at least have the current information about me.

Another trick they use is that their has been fraud on your bank account and you need to call them.  My bank notifies me immediately if something is going on with my account and they are in my phone so guess what I know it is my real bank calling me not the frauds from the other mine.

Oh they also call you from numbers that are in your local area.  Guess what, I don't answer calls if I don't know you so leave a message and I won't get back to you scammers.
