I have my prescription insurance through BCBS. I was in the process of having an expensive prescription filled and BCBS wanted to talk to my doctor to get a PRIOR AUTHORIZATION completed before they would approve it and my local pharmacy could fill it. The number that called me was 267-954-2897, from “Line Lexington, PA.”  I missed the call but my iPhone transcribed the message which mentioned Prior Authorization so I thought it was probably BCBS. I didn’t call the CALL BACK NUMBER they left in the voicemail. I called BCBS directly. They were just calling to tell me my script had been approved.

Got the same message today, twice from 2 different numbers.  I'm glad I checked here first because I am waiting for approval of two different medications from my insurance company.

Had a message on my recorder: "Health Plan Prior Authorization" call back # 844-607-5103. Called them back and first thing the robot asked for was my birthdate. Hung up! Suspect scam!

I'm really glad that I checked online before I called back to this number. Now I am sure that caller using this number is trying to steal my identity and/or my money.

They said it was for prescription prior authorization which I *am* waiting for. Like others, however, I was uncomfortable giving my D.O.B. to an unsolicited caller. A point in their favor though for not accepting a bogus date of birth I put in, implying they probably were just verifying their records. It likely was legitimate but I didn't want to take the chance. I hate that I can't trust any calls with phishing calls coming in all the time.

I received two automated phone calls today from 844-607-5103. The first time I returned it and a recording came on asking me if I was Greta_______. What I thought was strange is that I blocked my number before I called them, yet they knew it was me who was calling. I said no when they asked if it was me and then asked me to type in my phone number, DOB, and SS number. I immediately hung up. When I got home 3 hours later there was a second phone call from the same place. I just deleted it. After the first phone call, I called my doctor's office because I have a procedure next week and asked the office manager if there was a problem with the authorization. She called me back immediately and said no, we are all set with the procedure. That's when I knew for sure that something was odd about this phone call. I received a call about 6 months ago similar to this one stating that my insurance company wanted to clarify some very important information. What they don't do in these calls is identify who they are, they just say "this is your insurance company call us immediately". When I called that number back, I blocked my number that time also, but they knew that it was me calling because they said my name when the automated recording picked up. I called my insurance that time and they said it was not them calling me.

Beware not sure how they know you are seeking prior authorization, or insurance authorization of some sort, a good guess?  Do not call these people back at all!!!!! Call your insurance company, from your paperwork, the number you have. This number from PA  267-954-2897 is a potential fraud situation. So is the referral 844-607-5103 as well.  The tip off was the message stating they were  a Health Plan Authorization a generic catch all. Reading in the above post further into the call they ask for information no insurance company asks for. Also leaving the information they did on an unverified voicemail is a HIPA violation. Fraudulent all the way around. A proper insurance company won’t risk the fines.

Are you saying you can’t block a toll-free number? Also, this number I’d say is definitely some sort of fraudulent scam...

    Probable Scam
Automated call on my mobile phone with No Caller ID.  I  let it ring a bit but after it stopped I answered it and there was a message being left asking if my husband (using his first and last name) was on the line and they had information about a prior authorization.  I hung up and contacted the pharmacy where an actual prior authorization was being processed and it was not they who called.  The scammers called back exactly one hour later and left this message when I didn't answer the No Caller ID call; "Hello this is your health plan pharmacy prior authorization calling for (my husband's first and last name).  We were trying to reach you again with an important update about your prescription drug plan please call us back toll-free at 1-844-607-5103.  Again the number is 1-844-607-5103.  Thank you and have a good day goodbye."  Our pharmacy confirmed they did not call.

They phoned twice, left message each time on my landline.  Thought it odd, as my mail-order pharmacy uses my cell #.  They said my first and last name in their messages.  And I have indeed recently requested a “prior authorization” for a new medication.  But I did not recognize this phone number so checked before calling back.  Glad that I did!  Thanks to all who alerted me to probable scam and prevented me from calling back.  The question is, how do they get name and phone # of someone who has requested a prior authorization??
