Put a message on the screen of a users PC, he called, they removed to his computer, offered to fix the issue and scanned his check book after charging him $400.

Put a spyware message on mom's PC, told her to call this number (844-625-3284), said they were Microsoft, scanned check for $199, then took control of her computer.

Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised your ID on Facebook or other social site(s), and perhaps on shopping sites.
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused

What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1.  Pull the cables on the computer, or otherwise disable it, so it cannot access the internet.
2.  Change ALL  passwords stored on the computer.
3.  Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4.  Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything.
5.  Inform your bank and credit card companies.
6.  Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7.  Backup non-executable personal, data files to an external storage device.  (Executable files might be infected).
8.  You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
9.  Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you.
10.  Connect to the internet only AFTER all the above have been done.
11.  Change the passwords on all online accounts.  Even better - access a "safe", uninfected  computer, and change your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.

NOTE:
If your computer set a "Restore Point" while it was infected, any "System Restore" you make will re-infect your computer.  Suggest you delete any potentially infected restore points and avoid setting such restore points until after your computer has been thoroughly cleaned!

Honest computer companies do NOT cold-call people, or cause popups from websites to tell them their computers need fixing!

Some scammers even have websites, and falsely advertise they are associated with popular software packages or computer companies; so do NOT believe a "we will fix your computer remotely" site, and allow them access to your computer!

PS, all of that could have been avoided by installing and using an Ad Blocker!

An alert with sirens and warning came up and to call #860-256-4646 called and spoke with some one asking for check visually scanned had assess to my computer.

Warning and siren-like sounds came on my computer...this number 844 625 3284 came on screen...husband called and spent nearly an hour trying to get the "technician" to unlock our computer...and yes we were stupid enough to pay $199 to get it unloced.

Tech Support Pop Up scam:

Web Browsers DO NOT have the ability to determine and warn you your computer has an error. They can only warn you about a potential malicious website you are about to visit. A Browser is software that allows you to surf the Internet, not diagnose a computer or phone.

How would the pop up message know who to call unless the number was put there by the scammers who created the pop up? If your computer actually generated an alert, it certainly wouldn't use a web Browser to display it.

Most popups are generated from an Ad on an unsuspecting website and you can just close the tab/window. If it will not close or opens new windows/tabs, try editing the address bar {put Google.com} and hit enter or you can End Task the Browser {Ctrl+Shift+Esc}.
They can be removed by clearing the Cache and History after restarting the Browser. You should also have an Ad Blocker turned on. If your Browser doesn't have one built-in, you might look to see if it supports a Browser Extension Ad Blocker.
If that didn't work and your still getting pop ups, you might have a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) that triggers a popup window.

Beware of websites claiming "Remove 'this number' pop up virus", as many are downloads for adware cleaners or malware containing scareware. Only trust reputable Malware/Anti-Virus sites that use Official products from the Official website.

Very similar situation. Was surfing some adult material… pop up to call Microsoft technician. It took a min but I realized it’s a scam

They are saying they are Samsung now

844-625-3284 scam. They got $1299 and attempted to fix a problem that never existed
