Didn't answer.  Message was left by a male caller, identified himself as Tom Peterson with an independent company.  Said he had legal documents to deliver for a JPS Law Group.  Was contacting me at a phone number I hadn't used in many years and even used a former name of mine.  Gave me a reference number to use when I called back.  Called number from a blocked phone and it was answered by a male that said "this is Mr. Steve".  Of course I hung up!

Received a message from a male Who identified himself as Michael Smith he told me he was from JPS law firm and he couldn't find our house he said that he had papers to serve and was to return the call to this 844-628-9504 I did not call the number back

Got a phone call from a Private Number at work. They asked for Tammie Marshall and I said that this is Tammie Buie and they asked if they could leave a message for Tammie Marshall and I said that you are speaking to Tammie Buie formally known as Tammie Marshall.  She then said that there was some documents attached to my Social assigned to JPS Law and she gave me a file number and their phone number to call.  I took down the information and asked her did she know what this was regarding and she said that she didn't know that information and that I needed to call them.  I haven't called them and after seeing this information I wont be calling them.

Same thing said her name with a message that she either was going to take these papers for me to sign to my job and get my supervisor to sign off on them, If I didn't call that number and give them my address to bring it to me. Well I almost gave money to a scam artists right at Christmas time said If I paid this so called old bill at this low amount it would be taken off my credit report, well a friend said check them put first, come to find out they have been doing this to other people, they pocket the money for them self and had even been arrested before, when he called back to get my credit card number I was more than happy to tell him, I know who you are and you were arrested for this before, the number your calling from is a resident home not a business and it's located in Texas not where you said, so try to run your scam on s some other poor person on social S. On a budget! ! And they never called me again! Thank you so much for the info, I truly appreciate it!

Fri, 20 May 2016, I received a phone call from daughter stating I needed to return a call from a voicemail she was left. I was advised to call 1-844-628-9504  from Mr. Arthur Perkins to take care of "2 pending issues naming yourself as respondent associated with a matter connected to ************** (previous address of 6 years ago). Calling out of the Presidents office of the JPS Law. Be in your best interest to call immediately." (I found that he had also called another family member.
Contacted this 'office' and talked with Mr. Perkins who advised me of a debt from an account I previously had. Attempted to tell me one of the charges would be "Fraud" if I didn't take care of this today. He had a settlement offer and how would I like to take care of it. I advised him that I had already paid this debt in full, and I had records supporting that, but I did not have a "Paid in Full" zero balance letter. I told him it would take some time to locate these records. He said without the Zero Balance letter I was still responsible for the amount. I advised him I would call back when records were located. I called back and was sent to voicemail. I received a call on Monday, 23 May 2016 that I still needed to provide a Zero Balance letter or pay the settlement amount.
Talked with Arthur Perkins again today, Thursday, 26 May 2016 and advised him that I would like to mail a Letter of Debt Verification to him. He stated that he would email it to me. I replied that I would rather have it via US Postal Service. I then inquired about a physical mailing address that I could send this Letter of Debt Verification upon which he would not give out. I also inquired about the Reference Number or Account Number that this was associated with. He began to get irritated when I kept insisting that I needed this information. He then told me to have my Attorney call him and hung up.
I called back, hoping to speak with a different individual to obtain the address, but Arthur Perkins answered the phone. I then inquired about a mailing address again, and he told me that this was harassment. I told him I was just trying to protect myself and he was not happy! He kept telling me to have my Attorney call him. I advised him that I looked up JPS Law and found a "JPS LAW" associated with Real Estate in Virginia. He told me I could check New York, Erie County and to have my Attorney call him, again. At this time we both disconnected the call.
I contacted the Department of Law, Erie County, NY and was told there is no listing for him or JPS Law. Was informed the only JPS Law she found was on Google in VA-just like I did. She said this was probably a scam.

I have been the victim of this scam for the same account. I was told I would be getting a summons to appear and threatened with being arrested if I didnt' settle the account. I was naïve and made arrangements and paid this account settlement.  Only when I tried to reach Western Group Acquisitions, Brown and Brewer, Inc or Witherspoon Ryan and Assoc. for the Zero Balance letter on Friday, 20 May 2016, did I discover this. All numbers on the documents are no longer in service, and I found multiple notifications about this being a scam-After I paid out $1100!

Please be aware of your rights as a consumer! Check the BBB listings, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and your state Attorney General!!!!  Protect yourself!

Go to the police, file a report "Theft by Deception"
Then go to your bank and have them reverse the transaction to get your money back.
The bank will have to close that account to prevent future attempts to access it, so you will have to get a new bank account number - and new checks, etc.
If you have automatic withdrawals for things like utilities, you have to notify the utilities.
If you have direct deposit, you have to notify your employer or Social Security, etc. of the change.
