- Missy| 4 repliesI am getting calls threatening to serve papers at home or work and so is my aunt, mom and best friend.....Aunt called back one number and said looking for me. This particular number left message saying he was the legal department and would proceed with filing and serving me if I didn't call. I tried calling this 844 number back but apparently its not an 800 type number cause my phone would not call cause I have long distance blocked. I went on whitepages and the number says it is invalid.

- missy replies to Missy| 3 repliesAlso isn't it illegal to call people other than me regarding any of my financial things even if it is truly what it is? I thought hippa law made it to where whats my business is mine. No one should be getting calls but me.
- JIm replies to missy| 1 replyI was getting calls from them as well. As it turns out, if you list the family members as references on the application, they can call them until they successfully deal with the issue. It sucks, but unfortunately they do have that right.

- Resident47 replies to missyHIPAA, and not "HIPPA", governs only the trafficking of privileged medical data. It's not a general privacy law. Discussion of a debt problem with almost anyone but the alleged debtor violates the FDCPA. The bigger problem connected to Transit Capital / Transit Mediation is making empty threats of process service and litigation, and doing so in front of family, neighbors, and/or co-workers to create false shame. This too violates the FDCPA, and it's a common tactic of the worst extortionists.
- Resident47 replies to JImNow, JIm, I would hope you wouldn't be trying to softsoap the behavior of hostile lawbreakers. Debt collectors are given *one contact* to a non-debtor to obtain "location information" only, not blab about someone's finances and make ridiculous threats. They are not allowed to keep hassling "nearbys" all week "until they successfully deal with the issue". I'm sure Transit defines "success" as coercing a fast payment without having to prove the debt valid. I would define success as sending a "shut up" letter and later spanking these fiends in court for a few grand. Unfortunately for Transit and its kind, abused consumers "do have that right".
- Resident47Similar remarks in other threads cite Transit Capital / Transit Mediation as the tormentors.

Never let bullies on the phone confuse extortion with debt collection. Honest debt collectors do not typically send their claims straight to a judge, and they don't take your ransom money to broker quick deals with so-called "process servers". There are no secretive "arbitrators", "mediators", or "prelitigation specialists", only sweaty criminals with a script full of bullying remarks. Lawful debt collection is a process, not an ambush, and you are due a chance at each stage to raise a dispute. The agents' horrid threats are empty and their conduct is illegal. Do not reward lawbreakers with your money. Challenge them always, sue them if you can.
